Sen. Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) said the Senate Judiciary Committee is "exploring" measures that would block President Trump from appointing an acting attorney general to replace Attorney General Jeff Sessions during the August recess, effectively allowing him to circumvent the need for congressional confirmation.
"We're exploring the ways right now," Durbin said on MSNBC's "The Beat with Ari Melber."
The Illinois senator declined to offer further details when Melber pushed how they plan to prevent any attempt of Trump to replace Attorney General Jeff Sessions, adding that he's told Melber "as much as I can tell you at this moment."

If out more than 10 days they can hold pro forma sessions to prevent appointment. Dont know who has to agree but might be enough senators pissed about treatment of Sessions to do it
hes the gift that keeps giving...after only 4 months, they got a special counsel investigating the President..even with out a crime being committed!!!....gotta be some kind of record. Its as if the democrats are running the D.O.J.....smh.
It is bold, and I agree that it might not have the intended consequence. I’m not even sure if it’s true, but we’ll see. I’m assuming he knows what he’s doing, and has a plan. But I can’t say I’ve figured it out yet. Trump truly has everyone guessing on this one.
Sessions can easily straighten this mess out and undo some of the damage he has caused by the simple act of un-recusing himself so he can take control of the entire Justice Department which is what president Trump hired him to do.
His justification to un-recuse himself is that 9 months of investigations into the accusation of Russian collusion on the part of the president have shown the charges to be false and groundless.
No further explanatiion is necessary.
Do it and let the leftist pigs squeal.
“This is 100% about Mueller.”
Exactly. Mueller’s mandate says that he needs to ask the DOJ for approval to expand his investigation beyond Russia.
Rosenstein/Sessions will let Mueller do whatever he wants. That’s why they need to go.
Of course the dems want to keep Sessions...Sessions isn’t doing anything to their precious Hillary, nor is he protecting Trump from Mueller.
.... I don't think they are talking about "Protecting " Sessions as much as they are talking about ...... When he is forced to resign and step down ..... They will be able to block whomever the President wants to put in as his replacement .... and then force a more suitable and desirable person to suit their needs to be inserted into the position of Attorney General.
They won’t have enough Dems in the Senate left to block anything once the Awan brother sings.
+1
And the fish is on the line!
It is simple, just don’t let the majority Party call a recess.
How about...don’t adjourn for vacation. Stay in DC and work through vacation if you want to keep Sessions so badly.
[It seems like Barack Obama has been awfully quiet of late.]
Have you noticed weird things happen after OBAMA is photographed eating different kinds of foods? Subliminal messages?
Even if Lynch were AG now, democrats wouldn’t land as many hits on Trump.
Even if Lynch were AG now, democrats wouldn’t land as many hits on Trump.
The only person who can prevent a Senate recess is the Speaker of the House. According to the Constitution, neither house may recess for more than 3 days without the consent of the other. Here’s hoping DJT has a full plate of recess appointments already to go.
Trump so far inside their heads he’s a cyborg.
It’s something of a race against time now for the Dems and the Never Trumpers.
Right now it does not appear the Special Counsel actually has evidence of crime by, or even evidence upon which to legitimately predicate a criminal investigation of, the president. It’s just a fishing expedition.
If Sessions resigns and Trump appoints, say, Ted Cruz as Attorney General, Cruz could immediately dismiss the Special Counsel and bring the investigation back into the DOJ itself. Cruz does not have the conflict of interest Sessions claimed he had - he was not a part of the Trump campaign. So Cruz takes back oversight from Rosenstein and simply terminates the Special Counsel.
However, if the Special Counsel can claim that he was uncovering crimes by the president when he was terminated, then he can testify to that effect before Congress, and Paul Ryan and Mitch McConnell would support an impeachment effort against Trump for obstruction of justice. The crimes don’t have to be conspiracy with Russia to hack Podesta’s emails, it could be irregularities in obtaining a Trump casino license, a bribe paid to a sheik in Abu Dhabi, withholding information from the IRS in the course of an audit, or really anything at all in Trump’s businesses.
Ultimately, this is not about President Trump himself or Vladimir Putin or John Podesta’s emails.
It is about immigration and trade.
The globalist interests that are represented by Paul Ryan and Mitch McConnell very much want cheap foreign labor. They want to bring the labor into the US to lower wages and benefits, and they want to use that labor in locations in other countries and bring their product into the US.
The costs of replaced American workers are not borne by the globalists, but are shifted onto the government and to society at large.
It is all financed by ever-increasing massive debt, both at government and by consumers. They need massive consumer debt in order to support a final last binge of spending. They need massive government debt in order to cover the costs of Americans (health care, food stamps, housing, disability, etc) who are downsized by the globalization money play.
President Pence will be business as usual with NAFTA, TPP, comprehensive immigration reform, etc. and the threat to the power of the globalists will subside.
... so are you saying us “little people” are powerless, and our votes are worthless ?? We have no control over our “government?”
I think there’s a whole lot of colludin’ gonin on out there.
