Sen. Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) said the Senate Judiciary Committee is "exploring" measures that would block President Trump from appointing an acting attorney general to replace Attorney General Jeff Sessions during the August recess, effectively allowing him to circumvent the need for congressional confirmation.
"We're exploring the ways right now," Durbin said on MSNBC's "The Beat with Ari Melber."
The Illinois senator declined to offer further details when Melber pushed how they plan to prevent any attempt of Trump to replace Attorney General Jeff Sessions, adding that he's told Melber "as much as I can tell you at this moment."

Trump’s trolling them. That’s what all this bad mouthing of Sessions is about. Have them anticipating a move that’s not coming any time soon.
“Unless he fires Rosenstein first he becomes acting for a few months l think if Sessions goes .”
******
Not if Trump simultaneously fires Sessions and does a recess appointment for AG. Rosenstein can then be fired by the new AG.
“If I were Sessions Id make him fire me.”
What do you think Sessions is doing by not stepping down? Does he need Trump to publicly say “step down you backstabbing rat bastard!”
I think Jeff has got the message behind the scenes and now in public. He’s refusing to step down. Why?
Because there’s more “saturday night massacre” impeachment ammunition if he gets Trump to fire him.
Starting to get it now?
Remember when the Democrats all tried to block Sessions because he was a racist white supremacist? Why would they ever want a racist white supremacist to stay in? Could it be they were lying to prevent his confirmation?
In the Bizarro World, Bizarro Kramer (Feldman) brings groceries.
And Bizarro Newman (Vargas!) is actually great friends with Bizarro Jerry.
They took the bait. Sessions is staying right where he is.
Good Vlad. Your explanation seems the most plausible. Love it.
And so has Hlllary. But I think that has to do with Wassermans computer.
You are giving Ryan and McConnell too much credit. They are not in the driver’s seat and don’t have the power to do anything.
Trump will not fire Mueller. He’ll just keep him in a box enforcing his mandate to investigate Russian interference only.
Mueller is not Ken Starr. Ken Starr was appointed by congress and reported to congress. Mueller reports to the DOJ which Trump will control when he fires Sessions.
They all flip flop so much that it's crazy to accept any position they take as "firm."
See Comey going from hero to goat and back to hero.
You da Boss! Beautiful analysis.
You nailed it. Sessions has made it clear that his loyalties lie with the deepstate.
Maybe Trump is preparing the battlefield for issuing that order, along the lines of "if Sessions won't do it on his own ..." Sort of spreads the heat for that move.
Separately, Trump shows here that he seems to understand the inherent conflict of having his AG investigate and prosecute Clinton, e.g., that his AG would have to recuse from that case.
“It seems like Barack Obama has been awfully quiet of late”
I’ve noticed that. Maybe others feel like me - I have no interest in looking at or hearing him.
I’m sorry, but this is no WWF charade. We are dreaming if we think Mr. Trump is winning the Battle for Washington.
I love the man and his plans, but his tactics, tweets and off the cuff remarks are destroying any chance he has of success. These election-style rallies such as he had in Ohio last night are great for turning out the faithful to stroke his needy ego, but the whole thing is quickly turning into a “The Emperor Has No Clothes” scenario.
Worst of all, the President knows it, and he can’t stop himself.
What a steaming pantload.
What sacrifice have you made to win the Battle for Washington?
“Stroke his needy ego”, what an insult to a person who has laid it all on the line to fight this great Battle for Washington.
Don’t like his tweets? Tough nubs.
The Battle for Washington can be won but not by the likes of you.
Hate to agree with you, but I think you have a point.
Trump has allowed himself to be boxed in. The GOP is starting to distance itself from Trump’s agenda. The possibility of the two major promises being fulfilled (repeal Obamacare and build a wall) are dwindling.
Trump knows this. He has been in business long enough to know that at times the CEO has little control. There are ways forward, but they are not any good options left.
How can Durbin or any Dim givva sh!t about this?
They supposedly hate Sessions and everything he stands for. They said he was going to bring back Jim Crow and suppress voting. He would break up hard-working “immigrant” families.
This has crossed the threshold of bizarre, into laughable.
NLRB v Canning ripe for revisit...
Will they still love Sessions if he unrecuses himself?
