WASHINGTON (AP) — President Donald Trump has spoken with advisers about firing Attorney General Jeff Sessions, as he continues to rage against Sessions’ decision to recuse himself from all matters related to the Russia investigation.

The president’s anger again bubbled into public view Monday as he referred to Sessions in a tweet as “beleaguered.” Privately, Trump has speculated aloud to allies in recent days about the potential consequences of firing Sessions, according to three people who have recently spoken to the president. They demanded anonymity to discuss private conversations.

Trump often talks about making staff changes without following through, so those who have spoken with the president cautioned that a change may not be imminent or happen at all. What is clear is that Trump remains furious that the attorney general recused himself from the investigations.

Sessions is great but, his hasty decision to recuse put Dem holdovers in charge of the Justice Dept and we got an indy counsel that has hamstrung the administration. We can have Sessions or #MAGA but it appears, not both, at this point. I want #MAGA.

Well said. I agree.

There are some mistakes that can't be fixed, especially in government. I overheard at dinner a couple nights ago a couple discussing the massive protests planned WHEN Trump fires Mueller. That is the planned trigger that will end Trump. There will be no way this Congress will stick by him and he will be gone. It won't matter that there was never any Russia anything, but as usual the actions after the fact that will have brought him down.

The best path for Trump is to continue fighting and ride this out. That is the formula for maximum pain inflicted on the enemy. There is no sense in Trump blowing himself up, which is what firing Mueller in any form would be. Besides, Mueller might yet discredit himself in the process.

Don’t forget Trump said he did not want to go after Hillary be case she had been through enough. I was hoping they would investigate the Clinton Foundation but maybe they are and it hasn’t been leaked.

Sessions is great? Do you smoke meth?

Honest people can have differences of opinion as to whether Sessions is "great" or not, but there's no need for that tone...

Sucks he made such a boneheaded decision, but it’s imperiled Trump’s presidency. I’m sure he thought he’d mollify the media by recusing, but you can’t appease jackals. He just didn’t have a full grasp on the media’s commitment to destroying Trump but should have. I hate that a good man made a serious lapse in judgement, but he needs to quit so that the new AG can broom this witch hunt.

Again, I tend to agree.

Sessions f----d up the Trump Presidency by his recusal without even consulting—or even notifying—his own President. That was, in a word, asinine.

Right after Sessions recused himself he supposedly resigned but Trump didn’t accept it.

He will get burned on this. He compared the intelligence community to nazis before he was even in the WH. Look where that got him. He tried to take them on before structure was in place.

Yeah, sure. Everything would have been peachy keen if only the President hadn't made that comment. That would have changed the behavior of the entire Deep State. They would have totally discarded their agenda of conducting a coup against him. Jeez...

Ok. Sorry about the meth comment but I just woke up and was drinking my coffee and your comment made me choke. To me, you might as well have posted:

McCain is great.

Look, I’m inclined to think Sessions should resign, but it just sucks that the media would claim another scalp over this fabrication. And, I’m worried Trump won’t get the replacement that he wants.

I would think that the only way the media can't claim a scalp in this is for Trump to fire him, publicly and forcibly and lay out the exact reasons to prove he wasn't forced into it by the MSM.

Oh come on..you know that is not the only comment. You cannot take on the intelligence community without your support structure in place. He thought he could..he was very naive

What he is doing to Sessions hacks me off. The guy was loyal to him in public when no one wanted to touch him.

Sessions' attitude towards enforcing federal marijuana law against a totally opposite trend throughout the several States—which is where such power legitimately lies, if one understands American federalism—illustrates how profoundly out of touch he is in terms of priorities, and in terms of contemporary thought.

Throw in the desire to increase Civil Asset Forfeiture—against a backdrop of rampant abuse—and it's almost as if Sessions is setting the table for the Left to legitimately accuse the Trump administration of being gratuitously Authoritarian.

Sessions couldn't be more out of touch. He doesn't look like an effective AG to me. Indeed, the only reason the AG still has his job is because of President Trump's loyalty to him.

But loyalty goes both ways. Even if Sessions' recusal was arguably OK, why did he blindside his own President by not consulting—or even notifying—him?

I’m not keeping up with your conversation or know who you are talking about, but around here a person can go from being a true conservative to a rabid liberal in the blink of an eye, and vice versa.

What's your opinion on the Mueller situation?

It seems to me like Mueller must go—but not until the President has all his ducks in a row, and is prepared to make a forceful case to the American people, which shouldn't be that difficult.

I'm having a very hard time believing that Mueller has put in all of these partisan Democrat lawyers just so that the Democrats won't be able to gripe when the President is exonerated. Quite the contrary, I believe that Mueller is a Swamp Thing who is part and parcel of the Deep State's attempted coup.

Did you read Kurt Schlichter's piece yesterday? Worth a look...

Your last paragraph has merit.

If I could see it is really going to hit the DC fan...being a person who lived and breathed DC as Sessions has....I would protect myself first and foremost.

I would NOT consult with the potus. No way. Would I inform him?..I dont know...maybe he should have. But maybe not. It is suppose to be Independent.

I am way in the minority on mueller. I am want to know what really happened. There are far too many russian money laundering people involved with all of these business deals to brush it under the rug
.remember this is not just about Trump. Fbi is currently looking at some possible real estate scam Involving manafort and his family that roped in dustin hoffman.

I think russians did launder money through some of these transactions. The question is if there is a culpable nexus to any party and if that influenced any quid pro quo situation

I agree with you about Sessions enforcement of federal marijuana laws being counterproductive. I don’t like asset forfeiture at all and wish it was eliminated, but I listened to the policy change speech Sessions gave, and it sounded like he basically expedited the process for the victim’s sake, and made it so that they can’t seize a person’s property just because another person used it in commission of a crime. That didn’t sound like an expansion to me.

Nonsense. Are you crazy? The Trump Presidency will already effectively be over with Mueller hiring 100% partisan Democrat lawyers, expanding the investigation arbitrarily, and dripping out leaks for the next 3-1/2 years. It's basically taxpayer-funded opposition research. FOREVER. MAGA will never happen under such circumstances.

With the People behind the President—and they are—he can fire Mueller, and then maybe a truly fair Special Counsel can be named, if necessary.

The notion that Mueller—who has obvious conflicts of interest, such as his best friend Comey being a target of the investigation—is in anyway legitimate is ludicrous.

Let the Swamp howl. That's all they do. Removing a President is a political act, and if they want civil war in the country, let them try to pull a stunt like that with no legitimate reason. Firing Mueller, given his conflicts of interest, is not a legitimate reason for impeachment, and if there's anybody in the GOP who thinks otherwise, they're signing their own death warrant.

It's about time for the GOP Congress to have its President's back—like the Democrats always do with theirs.

President Trump (I think it was him) just tweeted about all these disloyal GOP cowards a day or so ago.

Whatever the speculation might be here in this community with all of us mushrooms, I'm actually supremely confident that President Trump sees things clearly and will do the right thing and lead. Those who don't have the stomach for that had better take some Tums...
