The Trump administration is readying for a crackdown on marijuana users under Attorney General Jeff Sessions.
President Trump’s Task Force on Crime Reduction and Public Safety, led by Sessions, is expected to release a report next week that criminal justice reform advocates fear will link marijuana to violent crime and recommend tougher sentences for those caught growing, selling and smoking the plant.
Sessions sent a memo in April updating the U.S. Attorney’s Offices and Department of Justice Department (DOJ) component heads on the work of the task force, which he said would be accomplished through various subcommittees. In the memo, Sessions said he has asked for initial recommendations no later than July 27.
“Task Force subcommittees will also undertake a review of existing policies in the areas of charging, sentencing, and marijuana to ensure consistency with the Department's overall strategy on reducing violent crime and with Administration goals and priorities,” he wrote.
Criminal justice reform advocates fear Sessions’s memo signals stricter enforcement is ahead.
“The task force revolves around reducing violent crime and Sessions and other DOJ officials have been out there over the last month and explicitly the last couple of weeks talking about how immigration and marijuana increases violent crime,” said Inimai Chettiar, director of the Brennan Center's Justice Program.

You have to deal with SCOTUS jurisprudence as it is, not as you would like it to be. You can’t harp at SCOTUS for ignoring the rule of law while at the same time defending ignoring laws you don’t like.

I don't know if that is true. I see the traffic to the various marijuana shops and I have to wonder if it is the same as before it was legal-or has the legality increased the traffic?
But, that still doesn't account for the people stopped for driving under the influence nor the accidents caused by impaired drivers and the cost of care to the injured.

Do you not get the point that Congress has power to control immigration and borders, but has no delegated power to regulate intrastate drug policy? Unless you believe the Wickard Commerce Clause is legitimate, that is.
My question to you is why are you such an ardent Sessions supporter given what he did to President Trump?
I'm an ardent Trump supporter, one of the earliest and most ardent at FR. But Trump is a salesman and a promoter, not a true executive or manager. There are large problems in the WH that are preventing many things from going as well as they could. He is surrounded by far too many people who do not support the issues that won the election. And why is that? Who selected, or recommended those people?
And Sessions didn't do anything to Trump. The question of whether Sessions would/should recuse himself has been around since at least January, before Sessions' confirmation hearings.

There is a February 27th Bloomberg article where Sessions says: He'll recuse himself from Russia probe if needed. Not sure I can post that.
Sessions was confirmed on February 8 and he recused himself on March 2. There was more than a full month when the question of recusal was in the news daily. So, why didn't someone in the WH notice that and call a meeting with those involved and make a team decision during the many weeks they had to consider the question?
That was a failing for Trump, Sessions, Preibus, the WH counsel and other top advisors who have any responsibility for planning and shaping strategy. We see frequent cases of departments doing things not consistent with Trump's agenda and there is simply a failure in the WH to plan and strategize all too often. This failure is owned by several.

Well, I supported him before he even announced and when FR was Cruz country and I dared not post Trump support...went to rallies, gave $$$, etc. Ok so we both have Trump bonafides.
However, I never asked about your support for Trump tho it seems rather soft based on your comments in last post...I asked why are you so supportive of Sessions? You seem to be al ot more concerned about what people think of Sessions than Trump...Glad he has an ardent supporter.
I am sorry, but it is Sessions’s actions that put Trump in this situation. He should have gone to Trump...It is not the White house responsibility to ask him to come and explain himself...

Now your issue is that Trump should have known better ... that Sessions would recuse...With daily questions...Well I hardly call New Haven or Issa the defining word...there are daily calls for impeachment too...but they are going no where at least for now...
Sorry I just totally disagree with you...Not responsibility of someone in White House to call a meeting. Sessions should have gone to Trump...perhaps even before confirmation. I think had he gone to Trump, Trump could confirmed someone else, have either talked him out of it, had him resign, or have had some time for planning a strategy. But that is not what happened. I seem to recall there was some meeting on the books between Sessions and Trump that had been scheduled for the day after Sessions made his announcement...Would have been nice had Sessions and not surprised HIS BOSS.
You can say it is Trump’s fault—partial ownership or whatever, but I will never agree.
It is Sessions fault and I believe that is how history will remember it. Regardless, that is how I will remember it.
