Obianuju Ekeocha, a Nigerian-born biomedical scientist and the founder of Culture of Life Africa, a U.K.-based pro-life group, argued on BBCs Sunday Morning Live that the Gates Foundations push for contraception in Africa might be an insidious way of moving the agenda of population control since in many African countries the desired number of children is actually quite high.
Melinda Gates announced last week that the Gates Foundation will commit an additional $375 million to family planning programs citing deep concerns about the White Houses proposed budget cuts to global family planning efforts. President Trump recently expanded a policy that bans taxpayer funds from going to programs that perform or promote abortion overseas.
When a woman has access to contraceptives, she tends to have fewer children. Families can devote more resources to each childs nutrition, health, and education, setting them up for a better future, Gates said.
Im sure Melinda Gates means well, Ekeocha began, but you see the problem is there is an arrogance and something in what I see as questions not being asked in all the talk about contraception and helping women space their children is what exactly, speaking of Africa for example, what exactly do women want?
In most of the African countries you get to find and research continues to show all the time that African women you know in a lot of the countries desire or desired number of children is actually quite high when cultures where people for example value children or value big families what are you saying to the women if you continue to push their governments towards the so-called family planning projects?
Not that people are not spacing their children, she added, its that this might indeed be an insidious way of moving the agenda of population control.

Africa’s population needs to be controlled. Yesterday.
Sometimes rich leftist globalists should mind their own business.
Melinda, your money does not impress everyone, nor does it make you an expert on other peoples lives.
Just like most everything else with activists, it’s not hard to read between the lines. “an insidious way of moving the agenda of population control They have a plan. They wont tell you explicitly what it is, but you can judge them in their actions, as well as in their objections.
Why does Melinda Gates hate Africans?
Africans should be able to have as many children as they can feed through their own efforts. And only that many.
So Nigeria is a target for underpopulation, then mass inbound immigration? If anything this seems like an effort to reduce future African immigration to the US and europe.
Is Gates seeking to reduce ALL African populations or just the compliant ones willing to self exterminate (letting the other groups outpace them)?
On the one hand, Africans should be able to choose how many children they have. But they ought to pay for it themselves. The way things are going now, the exploding African population is driving mass emigration to Europe. That’s not fair.
In a previous life, she was margaret sanger.
Another elitist with an intuitive grasp of the obvious!
It's a dicey subject for sure.
I hate the globalists and leftist billionare do-gooders but Africa is a train wreck with a population growing more unsustainable and society going in the opposite direction.
These fraud foundations are inherently racist. The investment should be in moving people to technology, tapping trillions in natural resources and striving to get their economically challenged society out of poverty. Once a society gains the benefits of economic growth population will settle.
Religious objections aside, it does make sense to have only as many children as can be fed, housed and clothed adequately, especially in places with limited resources. That does not justify aborting the excess, though; that’s still killing.
Who are you to determine who should have kids? Look at Europe and Scandinavia with their near-zero birth rates. How is that working out for them?
Africa simply needs to industrialize and embrace freedom and open markets. This $375 million could easily build infrastructure and water pipes to commjnities.
Who would impose that on them?
