A woman shot and killed by Minneapolis police had called 911 to report a possible crime near her home, a source who knew her said.
Justine Ruszczyk called 911 on Saturday night because she thought a sexual assault might be taking place in a back alley near her home, the source said.
But, after Minneapolis police arrived, an officer shot and killed Ruszczyk.
Police still havent explained how, or why.
Working to learn more
The shooting happened as two Minneapolis police officers responded to a 911 call reporting a possible assault shortly before 11 p.m., Minneapolis Mayor Betsy Hodges said.
The officers were wearing body cameras, but they were not turned on during the incident, the mayor said.
The Minnesota Department of Public Safety is now handling the case. The DPS Bureau of Criminal Apprehension said authorities are in the initial stages of investigation and working to learn more about the events that transpired.
As mayor of our city, a wife and a grandmother, I am heartsick and deeply disturbed by what occurred last night, Hodges said Sunday. There are still many questions about what took place and, while the investigation is still in its early stages, I am asking the BCA to release as much information as quickly as they are able to.
The Hennepin County Medical Examiners Office has not released the womans autopsy report.
Shock in Australia
Ruszczyk was originally from Australia, though she was a US citizen because her father holds US citizenship, the source who knew her said.
Her death made headlines across Australia. The countrys Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade said it is providing consular assistance to the womans family.
Ruszczyk had lived in the United States since April 2014 and was living with her fiancé at the time of her death, the source said. They were planning to marry in August.
She was a healer
According to her website, Ruszczyk trained as a veterinarian and later became a yoga instructor and life coach.
On Sunday, members of Womens March Minnesota honored her in a vigil. Chalk drawings on the driveway where they gathered said she would be remembered as a loving woman, a light to everyone.
This woman was a beautiful light. She was a healer. She was loved. She should still be here, one woman said to applause. This should not have happened
That couldve been me. That couldve been you. That couldve been you. That couldve been any of us. And, were gonna talk, and were gonna work as a community to make sure this doesnt happen again.
I came here hoping to see more info but it appears to be yesterday’s story and limited information.
There is not enough confirmed info in this story for me to have an opinion one way or the other. I’m interested to see if, as the facts do come out, the story remains as it appears or changes markedly. I’ve seen both.
Shot by a mussie cop across his partner into her while she was talking to the cop driver. Anyone want to bet he’ll get a pass?
Don’t hire Somalis to be your policemen.

She was just as eligible to be President as Ted Cruz.

Don’t let them into our country.
That’ll teach her to report crimes to the police.

Don’t let them into our country.
That sounds mighty suspicious.
Killed by a Somali animal who should NEVER have been allowed in our county.
Weapon handling accident?
Barney Fife accidental discharge?
That’s what I thought, but I believe the body cameras would normally be off while the officers are sitting in the car ... and the reports I’ve seen indicate that this was the case.
Uh Huh. Liberals Lie. It is a daily walk in the garden of Satan for them.
It will be hard to come up with a good explanation for this one. Upon first impression it does not look good. But I guess there could be some explanation such as “She reached for her cell phone and we thought is was for a gun.”
What does this have to do with Ted Cruz?
The cop-suckers will be along shortly to tell us how we’re not being loyal to the demigods with badges and how this woman obviously must have posed an immediate and deadly threat to these glorious modern day knights who had no choice but to kill her.
After all she must have lunged at them causing them to fear for their lives.
Isn’t that what these murderers always say?
I have zero hope that justice will be done here and instead am counting on the MPD and the Hennepin County Attorney to explain this away and blame the victim for provoking a deadly response.
I am so grateful that I don’t live in a Democrat-run city where you can’t defend yourself from the criminals and you can’t call the police who might kill you when they show up.
