The Senate will defer consideration of the GOP healthcare plan that would partially repeal and replace Obamacare until Sen. John McCain returns to work following a procedure to remove a blood clot from above his left eye, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said in a statement late Saturday.
After wishing him a "speedy recovery," McConnell, R-Ky., added: "While John is recovering, the Senate will continue our work on legislative items and nominations, and will defer consideration of the Better Care Act."
About two hours earlier McCain's office revealed that he would be spending a week in his home state of Arizona recovering from the procedure he got on Friday.
Mayo Clinic Hospital in Phoenix said the 80-year-old is now "resting comfortably at home and is in good condition," after a successful surgery.

If McCain shuffles off his mortal coils, Ducey might pick Ward to replace him. But more likely, it would be Rep. Martha McSally, who has the same interest in military affairs, or Rep. Trent Franks, who is hardcore.
Trent Franks is on the side of the citizens and the rule of law.
McSally is a Cheap Labor Express stooge like McCain and Flake.
Which is precisely why she would have the inside track with Ducey.
we could have a party like when ted kennedy didnt come back.
It wouldn’t surprise me if the ‘maverick’ comes back and votes against it...just to be ornery.
F*ck Juan McNuts! Traitorous b*sturd!
Trump will get his “Obamacare Fix” bill. It won’t fix much but he can check that box and move on to Tax Reform.
You heard it here first. Or possibly second or third or ...
They probably can’t pass the bill if they lose a single vote.
Well that was surprisingly fast... not... couldn’t wait til Monday morning to table the bill during business hours?
This has all the smell of the GOPe trying to run out the clock on Trump.
And if this had been any piece of legislation that McCain supported you know he’d be back in DC to do his duty.
Heck Reid beat himself up and still managed to be there for the senate opening and run the senate better than McConnell ever has.
Serious question: Can McCain vote by Skype?
So, where is that traitor trash McCain? Off picking up more phony dossiers against the President?
Ain’t he special?
I would be OK with him never returning if it meant never passing the bill. Or even if the Healthcare scam wan’t on the table, he could just never come back. I’d be fine with that. Actually, I’d be OK with all of congress leaving and never coming back.
Great. Ted Kennedy redux. Zero lessons learned.
I am, however, of the opinion that this awful law has to be clawed back bit by bit every chance we get, any chance we get. A slightly less awful obamacare is better than a fully awful obamacare and it gives conservatives motivation to finish the job once the waters in the swamp are finally low enough. DC got awful one bit at a time by people who were willing to take what they could get and hang on until they could gain more power. It will have to get less awful in the same manner.
The google machine says he needs to be on the floor to cast his vote for a final bill. I think they should change this rule. Our representatives should only be physically in Washington a few weeks out of the month for a week at a time to gladhand and attend the State of the Union address. Otheriwse all business should be conducted from the district or state he/she/it is representing and get them out of the bubble that is Washington.
Then wheel him in .... :^)
