Oh I’m sure. Beside the fact that Jerry Springer is a total moron (not saying Maury is much better but it’s easier to stomach once-in-a-rare-while), I always assumed most of his “guests” are paid actors. Hired off the street to be outrageous.
Like a DNC rally.....
I learned about “push presents” on Free Republic. I get the idea that this was a European nobility kind of thing that tumbled down the social ladder. Me, silly farm girl ... I thought not being pregnant anymore was all reward I needed!
Apparently there is also a custom of the father’s giving the mother a present every year on the child’s birthday, even if the parents are no longer married or “together.” I don’t even expect presents on my birthday, except from my mother. Also, I get a card from my brother.
My husband and I have a deal: he earns a living, I make sure it stretches for all of us. I don’t ask how much he spends on his hobbies and travel. He doesn’t ask how much I give to the Missionaries of the Poor. Once in a while I say, “Mind what you spend until we’ve paid off the credit card bill,” and we’re both careful for a while.
Why not just address this as a baby shower...?

Oh, but you don’t understand. The baby shower is an entirely different party.
Next, you are going to tell me that you don’t know about staging engagement events, where one can actually hire people to set up the whole situation in which the hopeful suitor pops the question. It can be an exotic location, or in a hot-air balloon, etc. And your professional can record the whole event to be shown over and over again and posted on Facebook. And, of course, the the blushing maiden pretends to be surprised when she was actually the one who nagged him into doing the whole thing.
And the father is where?
Why does anyone watch that garbage?
Thank you for saying it. I was too timid since it seems some Freepers are indulging in it.
My husband and I did music for a wedding last weekend where the couple (probably the bride) were obviously all about the pictures. The photographer/videographer had two assistants, and he was clearly running the thing. (One of the assistants sang along with everything, which was cute.)
I heard about gender-reveal parties for the first time a couple of weeks ago. Seriously, how stupid have we become? Just an excuse to get together and a) drink or b) receive gifts. Or both.
It’s become a “thing.” As in everything else today, the parents-to-be work overtime trying to outdo everyone else.
About 5 miles from my house...my guess is unmarried couple...she is excited about the baby, but he wasn’t...her set of friends...he gets pissed...he’s likely just the impregnator...lovely couple I’m sure with a great posse of friends, not.
These shootings in Cincy are so isolated among rival gangs or something...my life is totally unaffected...Cincinnati to me is a great city and a Heck of a good place to raise a family.
I live in the city...I am well armed.
It (Gender) is only temporary until the kid gets messed with by the school system and ‘decides’ what he/she/it is.
I wish I had learned about push presents from FR. Unfortunately, I didn’t. It was not fun hearing about it the way I did.
To me, this all sounds more like greed and materialism. It is becoming harder and harder for me to understand this latest generation and their desires.
I couldn’t answer that. I gave up all tv 10 years ago. Seen a moment here or there every so many years and it’s so inane and negative to “my culture and beliefs”.
Why subject “yourself” to that every day?
:)
I agree in general. However, I also think the "gender-reveal party" is probably subbing one-for-one with the baby shower, so the level of spending and gift-giving is constant.
Sounds like something retailers are pushing... more excuses to buy stuff.
This didnt just happen by coincidence. You can bet drugs, money and or gangs are involved. I would bet my mortgage, if I had one.
