The 230 Kilovolt equipment, which carries high voltage electricity and distributes it to customers in the surrounding area, caught fire, according to a LADWP press release.

The fire only affected one portion of the station but power to and from the facility has been shut off while LAFD personnel work to put the fire out, the Department added.

Residential and commercial customers across San Fernando Valley are without power and the blackout extends for 15-square miles, according to the LADWP.

...

Crews will begin reenergizing affected areas once the fire has been extinguished. Power is expected to be out for at least three hours, according to Fire Chief Butler.

Been pretty hot in the Valley with hundreds of thousands of AC units running. Could be it just got overloaded.

But iff it was sabotage, we probably won’t here it reported on the news.

Possibly aging system and maintenance issues like NYC subway system. California systematically shut down the nuclear power plants. They needed the added electricity generated by them.

If it’s only 140,000, I’ll be quite surprised.

Better fire up those windmills and PE panels. Oh, wait, it's nighttime and the wind is calm. Sh!t, sorry about that.

They used to say there were 3.5 million in the valley.

That 15x15 mile figure doesn’t quite cover it though.

Still, I’d be thinking more like 1 to 1.25 million.

power back in Tarzana - apparently they had to take down much of the system to assess, protect workers and firemen. they are gradually restoring now. the good news it is after dark and temps are down from 100 into 80’s. God bless.
