‘Amsterdam on steroids’: Las Vegas dispensaries brace for Saturday start of recreational sales

Fueled by one of the world’s largest tourism industries, Nevada is preparing to do the same on July 1. A May report published by Gov. Brian Sandoval’s task force on marijuana estimates that up to 63 percent of recreational buyers will be tourists.

“Everything we know shows that millennials are very pro-marijuana, and that’s the new marketing push,” said Nevada state Sen. Tick Segerblom, a longtime marijuana advocate. “This is a game-changer for Las Vegas and tourism here as far as I’m concerned.”

“Amsterdam on steroids,” he added.

Looks and sounds a lot like this thread.

Abortion
Steralization
Euthanasia
Jim Crow
Cut off water to mentally ill

Just a few of the things that states have done.

It should insult the intelligence of any thinking, freedom-loving person that the pot-producer and pot-seller wants to promote the pothead’s independence. Those powerful dark forces want the exact opposite: dependence.

If you ever hear news stories criticizing Dutuerte’s tactics, the pressholes say it’s a human-rights issue. Yeah right: drug producers and pushers are the paragons of human rights.

It’s at this point that you realize that the drug lords/politicians/bankers have corrupted the media to argue in favor of their viewers’ self destruction.

I appreciate that. And I can agree with quite alot of the opposing arguments. I had a SERIOUS drug problem from ages 15-20. Weed, cocaine, LSD, ecstasy, crack... anything that didn’t require a needle. Devastating to me and my family.

The Grace of God saved me, and turned me into the person I am today, 30 years later. I am a hospice nurse now, and work around copious quantities of heavy narcotics. I have no need or desire for chemically altered states of mind.

However, I think my experiences have given me a somewhat-unique perspective on recreational drug use and medicinal marijuana use.

Kids should never use any mood altering chemical, and that includes pharmaceuticals except in extreme, rare cases. Too many kids play with drugs, or are put on psychoactive pharmaceuticals for the flimsiest of reasons. I have personally witnessed alleviation of terrible symptoms in my patients by use of both smoked marijuana and MJ-derivatives. (Not scientific proof but good enough for my mind)

Lastly, the WoD has done terrible things to the freedoms we once enjoyed in this Nation.

My point is this: the drug problems we have in this Nation can be solved by means other than heavy-handed Goobermint intrusions, wielded by self-righteous moralists. My sins are my own, and are between me and God.

So people who willingly subsume their life and liberty to a fleeting feeling are the epitome of weak slaves.

I wholeheartedly agree.

I served this great country!

So did I and many others here. You don't hold the moral authority around here buddy!

I wasn't claiming moral authority. I was responding to one of the many insults flung by ifinnegan:

You are, nay, have, destroyed this great country.

I volunteered to serve at the end of the Vietnam Era and ifinnegan was accusing me of destroying the country because I smoked pot in Colorado, which is total BS! How would you like it if some self-righteous a-hole told you that you have destroyed our country? You wouldn't.

“We feel sorry for most of those on your side because they are all about weakening the self and the spirit.”

Interesting fallacy to presume that anyone using cannabis medicinally is “weakening self & spirit”.

Myself, I suffered from crushing depression & anxiety for 20+ years before I began using cannabis. I began using cannabis in 2015 & my spirit is no longer chained to the darkness of depression nor am I imprisoned spiritually & emotionally by anxiety. I’m 75 lbs lighter since I began using cannabis. I’m healthier & happier than I’ve ever been in my adult life. I’m active in my parish, playing bass for the 10am Mass group.

Taking any medicine is not a sign of weakness when there is a real reason to take it. Following the steps necessary to legally purchase medicine is not evidence of weakness but requires fortitude of thought & a need for wellness to have to relate to a different doctor for the 27th time how depression & anxiety have impacted your life in hopes of getting relief for the awful symptoms.

You can feel sorry for me till the sky falls, I’ll just remain happy & thankful. Peace :)

The Constitution grants the federal government no authority whatsoever over intrastate drug matters.

The Constitution grants the legislature the power to make laws that do rule over these issues

No, it doesn't - Article I Section 8 enumerates exactly what issues are within the legislature's authority, and intrastate drug matters are absent from that enumeration.

Your use of self-righteous arrogance in this particular post is one of the reasons fewer & fewer people take prohibitionist rhetoric seriously. Reminds me of the self-righteousness of progressives on CNN, FNC & PMSNBC, etc...

A student of Scott Adams school on persuasion you are not lol.

“My formerly conservative state has become whacked out liberal...”

Colorado turned liberal BEFORE they passed the marijuana laws. That law was passed in 2012, while Colorado had not gone Republican in a Presidential election since 2004.

“Strangely Loco Weed didn’t help the Indians much...”

Umm, Europeans brought cannabis to the Americas. The indians were smoking tobacco out of those peace pipes.

“This country has enough problems with the effects of alcohol and its related destruction of families and ultimate deaths, why do you use that as an argument to support another drug that has no benefits to society whatsoever?”

Maybe because temperance nuts already tried alcohol prohibition and we know with a certainty it just made the problem worse? That’s why we bring it up, because modern temperance nuts keep forgetting that prohibition doesn’t work.

If people want an escape, they will find one, and they won’t give a damn about what laws you pass. If you want to get people off drugs and alcohol, you need to convince them to want to get off them, not use the brute force of government to try to change human nature.

Boogiemam is emotional.

Boogieman is upset.

And instead of following its advice to read the thread before posting, it would’ve seen reply 118, and thus would not have needed to post reply 132.

So boogieman not only proves the pothead is brain addled, it proves to be slow and hypocritical, too.

Potheads are such emotional hot heads.

I haven’t heard your story yet, so I appreciate it, clee1! It’s great to hear the stories of other FReepers who have overcome such darkness in their lives. Your story is up there with some of the best.

Read carefully stickman. I said, “we feel sorry for most on your side...” I didn’t say “we feel sorry for all on your side.” You’ve told me your story before, and I know that pot isn’t your god, instead it’s just a coping mechanism. So I don’t feel sorry for you because you have a healthier attitude than most on your side.
