Williamstown - Shems Snack Shack sits about a mile away from the Ark Encounter on a road that turns into Williamstowns Main Street. In case you missed the reference to Shem, Noahs son, its also the Home of the Ark Dog two-thirds of a Biblical cubit long and has swirly blue linoleum floors meant to mimic the ocean and a camel mascot named Humphrey, who declares that the gourmet hot dogs are flooded with flavor.
The snack shack is owned by Charleston, W.Va., doctor Brian Plants, a longtime donor to the Answers in Genesis ministry of Australian Ken Ham, whose vision has brought the Creation Museum in Petersburg and Ark Encounter, which opened last July. Plants thought it would be a good idea to capitalize on the hordes of hungry tourists who would be descending on Williamstown after touring whats touted as the worlds largest timber-frame building in the shape of a boat.

They have a zip line...petting zoo...some musical attractions..so they are starting to expand...a world class zoo and aviary and aquarium with concommittant research arms would really help to keep past visitors coming back...a huge garden...like butchart in victoria, b.c. would be a super attraction...
Heading there today.
They have a zip line, and a zoo is under construction.
There are many videos along the tour and many displays. It’s not just the Ark.
I’ve got to tell you that our visit to the Ark in KY was a delightful day. I’ve never seen that many people in one place for a long time. Could barely walk through the three floors of the massive Ark without elbowing somebody every minute. The three floors are filled with artistically “created” creatures with details so intricate the fur was applied one hair at a time. There was a nice little zoo for the kids with camel and donkey rides. There is a zip line that covers acres (no, I didn’t) and a restaurant that seats 1,500 people. The only caution I can offer is to wear your walking shoes or your scooter. It’s a massive structure and you won’t see all of it if you spend the day. It was worth the trip. I even learned a few things I didn’t know.
Thank you for adding the things I forgot to mention. (and don’t wear your scooter, ride it) :o) It was a great place and our busload of people, including white hairs and great-grandchildren, all agreed that it was one of the best trips yet. I think people, as we did, can not imagine the size of Noah’s Ark. Seeing it confirms the story in Genesis. You can see how he would have put that many creatures in there. I have traveled and visited 48 of the 20 states and I’m not easily impressed. I was impressed.
That’s awesome. I’ll have to plan a trip.
Call me Ishmael.
My neighbors visited the Ark after going to the Ky. Derby.
They really enjoyed it.
I think it has more to do with charging $7 for a hot dog.
Ketchup, mustard, pickle relish and onions.
I actually had a UMC pastor tell me, in the 1990s, that the youth pastors didn't need to teach marriage, because it was just "natural." Now look.
He himself turned out to be a closeted gay man.
Thanks for your hometown report. When is the slow season?
My wife and daughter really want to go, but I prefer lesser crowds. LOL
Might have been bias on his part.
Still, God knew the devil would tempt people into various abuses of sex, and it was happening in New Testament authorship times making it immediately topical for the biblical epistles and for Jesus’ personal blessings on marriage and virtuous singlehood, and admonishments.
What many Christians aren’t aware of is the depths to which Jesus will stoop down to save a sinner. What we go “EWWWW — get away from me right this minute” at, Jesus patiently suffers through. It may for some be an intermediate step to shed the closet before it dawns on them that they have been lured into hateful acts.
Even it might have needed an additional miracle, but the visible size of the ship is certainly impressive from a human point of view. It would have underscored the sincerity of the Lord’s (alas rejected by all but Noah and his family) invitation to the men of the world to be saved from the flood destruction of the entire human world.
I agree. I don’t like to read the hate and name-calling against gays on this Forum; so many LGBTs are people who were wounded so badly in early childhood. They need our prayers and encouragement, not scorn and condemnation of their chances at renewal. That said, we do scorn sinful behavior of all types from all types of people.
Too much “hating” causes the contrast between the body of Christian believers and the stuff that these folks have wallowed in to become nonexistent. Given two devils, people will usually choose the devil they know.
Christians should learn how to warn and invite without hating, and to make it genuinely look like it is about a sincerely caring God.
It takes a dedicated believer to endeavor to love a sinner out of his or her sin, and show the endeavor as actually sincere. It’s one thing to mouth the words, it’s another one to radiate the attitude.
Some Christians may be afraid that bad attitudes will rub off on them. And they might even do so, for a moment. The key for the Christian is to know when to say enough for a day, then to go wash in the blood of the Lamb. And the washed Christian will be a little wiser the next time around. “They overcame [the devil] by the blood of the Lamb and the word of their testimony.” Christian courage grows when exercised.
It is like the frequent adage: hate the sin but love the sinner. The sinner entering the body of Christ can come into better and better fellowship as he believes then uses the Blood to wash his own sin as needed.
It may be hard to impart an idea of what washing with this Blood is like. It is ministered by the Holy Spirit as a force that restores peace and assurance and bestows holiness and pardon. The sinner’s own instinct will be “I must punish myself, and I will wallow in this mud to do it.” But that is what the world taught him to do, often in such dysfunctional (and sinful) environments as what you mention. Recapping the themes of his childhood may be a necessary part of the process of this cleansing, and God in His wisdom will present the necessary material, though a knowledgeable counselor may be able to participate in that helpful outreach.
Well still, food prices are now high all over. This has to be looked at in context, and these are large dogs.
Another possibility is to double up on one or more. Two helpings of onions, maybe.
