Senate Republicans and the White House are facing down an increasingly daunting challenge to secure the votes necessary to pass legislation before the July 4 congressional recess that would make dramatic changes to President Obamas signature health care law.
At least five Republicans have already come out against their partys bill which can only afford to lose two votes and over the weekend more began expressing serious reservations and skepticism about the proposal, saying they would like more time to debate and tweak the plan.
A key moment will arrive early this week when the Congressional Budget Office releases an analysis of the bill estimating how many people could lose coverage under the Republican plan, what impact it might have on insurance premiums and how much money it could save the government.
The stalled Republican effort to pass a sweeping rewrite of the Affordable Care Act was further threatened Sunday when Republican senators from opposite sides of the partys ideological spectrum voiced their disapproval, imperiling hopes for a Senate vote this week and President Trumps desire to fulfill a core campaign pledge.
50 Billion in direct payments to insurers who provide zero care.. not just no! I have never seen an insure revive a peron, take a blood pressure.. reassure a spouse or deliver a new life. I have seen them take billions for themselves and deny people basic care. I have seen Them limit care and tell providers what to do.
What is needed is a system completely independent of all of them which provides first aid and minimal care for those who prefer that approach.
This is fake news as far as I can tell....republicans go home with no bill passed they know they are dead meat... So they can gripe and maybe get a little concession or another but it they don’t pass a bill, even a flawed one... After running for a decade on we’ll repeal it... They will get their teeth kicked in.
If the “repeal” doesn’t actually repeal, what difference will it make when they go home?
You can play purity argument all you like, but that’s not where the electorate is or ever will be.
They go home with nothing they will get crushed.. Go home with less that purity and the ideological wing screams... But that’s a much smaller group, loud but hardly the folks that make or break you at election time.
I hate to break it to folks, but the market uber alles purity folks will never see what they want because what they want is as whackadoo as the gubment uber alles faction of the left.
All of the Obamacare vs. AHCA bullsh*t - ALL OF IT - is about how to keep the rivers of cash flowing to “insurance” companies and drug companies.
THAT’s what they are fighting over.
“sweeping rewrite of the Affordable Care Act”
still leaves in place 99.9% of obamacare.
nothing to bring down cost of insurance or even more importantly, cost of health care itself, since both parties are totally bought out by drug and insurance companies, and healthcare and medication costs are still going to be through the roof.
nothing about competition, either in insurance or healthcare.
nothing to rein in obscene drug prices.
nothing about insurance across state borders.
nothing about insurance companies selling cheap catastrophic insurance, or any other policies they so desire, as long as legal and not fraudulent.
nothing about eliminating obamacare mandates that make insurance unaffordable.
RepublicanCare is a sick joke.
they’d be WAY better off to pass no bill at all and let kommiecare collapse in a year, and THEN they’d have a universal mandate to actually repeal and replace.
A non-repeal repeal is not going to fool the people who put Trump there.
Get the federal government out of our medical care.
If the feds control the care we can get for our children, we are their slaves.
If the Senate passes something, then the differences will be compromised on in reconciliation...I.believe. Maybe President Trump can make a MAGA deal for us there?
Either we have a genuine free market-based healthcare system (and again, states have the power to offer plans to the poor, not to mention the increase in charitable giving that will result from a free market system, so don't give me this crap about "So...so you right-wingers want people to die?, or we are going to have single-payer, government-rationed healthcare that will destroy more lives than Obamacare ever dreamed of.
We CANNOT continue down this path of having a somewhat-private system and generous government subsidies and mandates.
Donald Trump must veto this bill if it reaches his desk. He is being set up for failure. Because Ryan and McConnell will be inoculated from their mistake. The media, the Dems, and the establishment Republicans will all blame Trump and the new bill will be called Trumpcare.
The media ignored all the sob stories from the people who were happy with their health insurance but lost it under Obamacare, but you can bet they will trot out everyone under the sun who lost their Obamacare coverage.
I have called my Senators (Johnson and Baldwin) and my Congressman to stop this bill.
This is not an argument about "purity." This is a Constitutional argument about the limits of the federal government and the liberty of the people.
Should the federal government be involved in healthcare or not? We have state governments that already have their own healthcare plans for the poor. Why can't Medicare and Medicaid be simply dissolved at the federal level and merged within those existing state plans?
but thats not where the electorate is or ever will be.
The "electorate" voted for Republicans who promised to repeal Obamacare. They did not vote for them in order to try to "fix" Obamacare which will make the problem worse.
They go home with nothing they will get crushed
Crushed by whom? The leftist activists are already protesting against them anyway. How are they going to make them more madder?
Go home with less that purity and the ideological wing screams... But thats a much smaller group, loud but hardly the folks that make or break you at election time.
You are arguing from a electoral and media perception standpoint; I am arguing from a sound Constitutional one. If Obamacare is not completely repealed and the market de-regulated and turned over to the free market, there will be single-payer.
Trump's Art of the Deal is irrelevant here. If any aspect of Obamacare remains, a future Dem Congress will simply put it back together again and make it much more totalitarian. Also you're going to have federal activist judges ruling that this X-component of what bill comes out of Congress and is denied by the insurance companies to someone now must be funded per this part of what was Obamacare (which will be called Trumpcare).
We have a golden, historic opportunity to completely reverse disastrous Great Society and New Deal policies but Republicans have gone AWOL.
Can any of you who favor the bill explain how it will lower premiums? Help me out, I don’t understand the technicalities, so please explain as simply as possible. Thanks!
You sound like you understand the bill and support it. Can you help me by explaining how it will lower my very high insurance premiums?
I want obamacrap repealed in total. Leave.none of it as law.
I feel like diogenes, looking for a clear honest answer. How does this bill work, and how will it lower premiums?
Just Let Obamacare die and let them live wit it
