Peddling fake news does not, in fact, equate to a long-term successful business strategy, reporters for The New York Times are learning the hard way. The Gray Lady, which many in the media class consider the pinnacle of the information business, is struggling so much financially that reporters are expected to be laid off from the publication, along with many editors, the New York Post reports.
Reporters at the New York Times could soon be vulnerable to the ax, the Posts Keith Kelly wrote. If the ongoing round of voluntary buyouts being offered to editing staff does not get enough takers, the Gray Lady could begin another round, NYT Executive Editor Dean Baquet recently warned his top department editors.
Kelly reported that as part of an ongoing restructuring at the Timeswhich has been happening since early 2017a whopping 109 copy editors have already been terminated while only 50 new jobs are likely to be created as the paper shifts its focus to digital. Kelly wrote:
When the downsizing was first revealed in late May, a memo from Baquet and Managing Editor Joe Kahn portrayed the cuts as a streamlining of the editing process and indicated that some of the savings would be used to hire up to 100 more journalists. But in a mid-June meeting with department heads, Baquet admitted that journalists could be targeted in a new round of layoffs once the editing ranks are culled.
Kelly quotes a memo from New York Times metro editor Wendell Jamieson who said that the buyouts that are eliminating editor jobs at the Times are now also targeting reporter jobs there.

They’ll be fine. Way too many ways to do a national radio show today.

Meanwhile...
Just losing their jobs is not enough. Caning would be a good start, THEN fire them.
I thought they were doing so well since November 8, 2016.
Fact checkers hardest hit.
Can't lay off what you don't have...reporters!
Reporters do just that, report the facts; Who, What, When, Where, How, and only sometimes, Why. The NY Times doesn't have reporters. It has journalists.
Journalists don't need no stinkin' facts. Their sole purpose is to promote an agenda. They will manipulate, fabricate, and lie to advance their "cause". And their cause is normally the destruction of a responsible, moral, just, and free society.
The NY Times can fire all of its journalists. Won't make any difference to its demise until it starts hiring reporters.
They don’t have reporters now. Just numbnuts impersonating reporters . . .
GRRRRREAT news. Americans are tiring of FAKE news. NY Times had a good run. It’s over.

They are not reporters, they are novelists.
You know covfefe is a real word when people start misspelling it. It means "an error committed by an electronic device and published on the internet inadvertently."

This seems obvious.
The people that buy and read papers are going to more likely be traditionalists . . . people with jobs and families. and who are actually able to read (and in English).
Right?
Aka, TRUMP SUPPORTERS.
Ghetto dwellers, illegals, snowflakes, Marxists and gender-X activists don’t seem like a lucrative market for a city newspaper.
Nice to know Pinch Sulzberger will be the one the family can blame for the Times going belly up. Why he isn’t replaced baffles me. He has been a terrible manager.
Sold all the TV stations, the old Times Building, bad deal there. Bought the Boston for $1 Billion, ran it into the ground and sold it and some other media properties for about $70 Million. Built a new Times Building, then sells it and leased back the space it needed.
Yeah all in all Pinch has been an outstanding manager for the family business.
LOL! May the covfefe be with us!
What’s the Democrats to do? Without the likes of NYT and CNN who is going to campaign for them
Time for Soros to give them another hundred million dollars.
And so will some of the writers and editorialists of the Times. The point is doesn’t matter the content of the message. If you’re in a dying industry, you’re dying.
I hope NYT stays viable until Sarah Palin wins her lawsuit.
The most sought after reporters these days often have their Degrees in Fabricatory Journalism.
When ‘Moron’ is defined as a synonym of ‘Disagrees’ you don’t have to make even the minimal mental effort of “assuming” something.
