On the other hand, a Handel win is not anywhere near the victory/mandate/endorsement the Trump team will claim it to be. This is a Republican district. The only reason it was close: A lot of Republicans voted for a Democrat. So, the GOP victory on the merits is pretty limited. Spending enough money to scald a wet mule (to borrow a phrase from Haley Barbour) to hold on to a district that Tom Price (Trump’s HHS secretary) and Newt Gingrich held is not a sign of Republican health.

Given the amount of money the demonrats poured into this election I can disagree with the paragraph.
The demonrats pulled out all the stops to win this and failed. This was a huge Trump victory.

Another irrelevant GOPe reject heard from. Since last Nov., Goldberg has dropped off radar, so this may be the last you hear of him.
The best moment last night: when Karen Handle thanked Pres. Trump for his help in her win and the crowd erupted in shouts of “TRUMP!TRUMP!TRUMP!” The GOPe crowd probably curled up in a fetal position knowing that there is NO CHANCE that the President’s voters are discouraged.
Let’s see. Trump won the district by 1.5 points. Karen Handel won it by 5 points. No way of spinning the facts. This is a huge victory for Handel and Trump.

But Scott Brown won the special election there in the early days of Obama.
The only way the democrats can retake congress is by winning in republican districts. And open races are far easier than the incumbent races of the midterms. The democrats are screwed.

The media keeps portraying this district as a solidly red one. It’s just not true. It is split right down the middle. There are deep blue and deep red areas with in that district.
