Record temperatures. Roads cracking and buckling. Planes that can't take off. Power knocked out. Wildfires raging. These are just some of the trying conditions currently roiling America's West Coast, which is in the midst of a record-breaking heatwave.
Nervous about how these disruptions will negatively impact the economy and even cost human life? You should be. And there's more to come.
Changing weather patterns are the new normal, thanks to decades of trashing the environment and a refusal from many in the party currently controlling Washington, the Republicans -- and their corporate patrons -- to even acknowledge climate change as a reality, let alone do anything about it.
Entire nations may soon be under water. Mega-cities that are home to hundreds of millions are set to drown, leaving huge numbers of people stranded, constraining already-limited resources, fueling violence and competition over those resources, and creating a whole new category of need: climate refugees.
A delayed flight out of Phoenix will soon be the least of our worries.
If you're stranded in Phoenix right now, or worried about an elderly acquaintance in California, or are without power in the Bay Area, or nervous about a wildfire taking your home, you can thank the long list of politicians who do the bidding of polluting corporations instead of their constituents and protect profit over the environment.
You can thank the President who tore up the Paris climate agreement. And you can show your displeasure by refusing to support candidates who don't take climate change seriously, and don't do whatever they can to keep the world inhabitable.
Anything less is global suicide.

Almost correct.
Changing weather patterns ARE normal. What happened to the Anasazi? What happened to the Maya? Where are the savannas that used to occupy what is now the Sahara?
WHAT HAPPENED TO ALL THAT ICE????
You know it. I was stationed at Barstow from 70-73 and it is hot. Went down to 29 Stumps a few times and was hard pressed to decide which was worse. Made one trip to China Lake Naval Weapons Center and that place was desolate and HOT! Made Barstow and 29 Palms look like a paradise.
This is normal weather for that part of the country. They cancelled certain flights last year over 118 temps. A couple of years ago I attended a 4-day convention in Las Vegas and it was 104 every day.
Nothing unusual, CNN are still lying propagandists.
jill f is ignorant. This Chicken Little has never experienced summer, I guess. What a moron.

Trump eats up all the cool and refreshing ice cream too, thus causing everyone else to feel that much hotter and sweatier. The fiend!
It’s hot in Phoenix?
OH NOES!!!
Isn’t that the truth. They’re all actors for the “News Show” not real intellectuals or smart people at all.
Bump!
This nitwit needs a bottle of Midol.
Claim That Sea Level Is Rising Is a Total Fraud
Sea levels began to rise 18k years ago at the end of the last glacial period. They have risen about 135 meters since then which is an average of 7.5 millimeters per year. That is an average of 750 mm per century (29.5 inches) which is far more than the average over the last century.
From 1880 to 2000 sea level rose about 20 cm or just under 8 inches. Far less than the nearly 30 inches per century average over the last 18,000 years.
It’s a desert and it’s summer.
Wow! and let CNN know that water is wet.
Cooling trend coming anyway....

If these jerks want to get Donald's attention, they should inform him that his Mar-a-Lago estate will be under water by the end of his first term. 😁
I remember 120°F days endless..............
Why do I feel sure without Googling that Jill “Chicken Little” Full-of-It wrote no such hysterical diatribes during the Obozo years whenever temperatures reached 100F+ in the Southwest?
So far this spring it has been cooler than average here in the Rockies.
Just like the Old Farmer’s Almanac said it would be.
Rather mild day day before summer starts here in central TX. It was downright chilly this morning, ok maybe not chili.
So dumb, if you look at temps in the southwest outside of the major urban areas surprisingly to no one the temps have not changed much, in the cities like Yuma, Phoenix and Vegas they changed because of population boom. We created huge heat islands in the desert so overnight lows don’t get so low anymore in the summer and heat is retained day to day.
And these idiots reproduce, drive and vote.
As I’ve said before, there is a wave of stupidity over 1/2 this nation that cannot be believed. I worked with idiots that got TWO destructive computer viruses. When I stopped the 2nd one, the MOST destructive, TWO of the idiots were complaining about ME. I guess they wanted me to just let it wipe out the entire office.
I have never seen such stupidity in my life. And they’re serious, too. You truly can NOT fix stupid.
