A modern production of Julius Caesar with an actor made up as Donald Trump getting offed onstage will continue to play in Central Park as scheduled, the theater company said.
The production part of the annual Shakespeare in the Park series has been ripped by the White House since it was mounted Sunday.

Recently a couple of friends and I went to see the traveling production of Rogers and Hammerstein’s Cinderella. When it was over and we were walking out I told one of them.....I don’t remember Cinderella being political. They had the older step sister in love with a man who was fighting the Prince for taking homes away from the poor.
I had just watched the movie before we went and didn’t see that part.
They’ve inserted politics into everything.
any and all sponsors should be boycotted
The joke is that younger people aren't attending either - they're into hip-hop or other crappy pop culture. "Older" people who can afford tickets and are into the music are still primarily the ones who go to the opera.
Remember the rodeo clown with the Obama mask? Lost his job...
I never thought I could despise a group of people as much as I despise Liberals. I live with family and they are Liberals. The father told his kids that the shooting was a good thing because he shot Republicans. Even his CHILDREN said that was wrong!
I lead by example here and do not respond to any nasty comments about Trump or Republicans- and the children are starting to notice the difference between the hate their ProgDem father spews and my response (when alone with them) of FACTS-otherwise known as the truth.
He also said yesterday that the reason Trump wasn’t under investigation is that no one can believe he would conspire with the Russians, in other words, the FBI just couldn’t believe it so didn’t investigate Trump. And my sister agreed; she thinks Putin and Trump are best buds anyway and she has a “feeling” that Trump is guilty.
She also says that the ONLY REASON Trump did all of that “supposed work” with the Saudis was so “he could build hotels there and around the world.”
I could go on and on but I don’t like to make fun of the mentally ill...
Are the lefties really that dense? Caesar was not really portrayed badly in that story; all the conspirators against him met with tragedy because of their actions, while Caesar’s loyalists triumphed.
Someone should do a version of the Passion Play with an Obama look alike as Judas... Then intensely focus on the scene were Judas hang’s himself.
You can thank post-structuralism for that. It’s how the leftists rewrite history and culture on the fly. Better for them than the memory hole, being carbon-neutral and all.
Didn’t it all start with “West Side Story” and it’s appropriation of Romeo and Juliet?
There's nothing wrong with someone taking the themes of a Shakespeare play and re-using them. West side Story is a brilliant example. Others I can think of include the western Jubal with Glenn Ford which is essentially based on Othello, and the western Broken Lance which is based a bit on King Lear. There are also the Kurosawa masterpieces like Throne of Blood (Macbeth) and Ran (King Lear again).
I do think it's kinda lame to set Romeo & Juliet in a modern gang setting like West Side Story. I also do not like gender-bending in Shakespeare, such as R & J as two lesbians (which has been done).
Aren’t they afraid of someone coming in and gunning the whole place down?
Of course it will continue to play, and no doubt to sold-out audiences. The left has learned that the lunatic fringe of the Democrat Party is now large enough to support commercial enterprises, like CNN, MSNBC, the NYTimes, Wash Post, etc.
Readership and viewership is reportedly up across the board since they completely abandoned all their traditional editorial standards. Why shouldn’t moral standards go too? The bottom line is what’s important.
Protesters shut it down tonight!!!
Thanks
Great post
Ouch. The NEA, NPR, and PBS all need to lose funding. Government art is an oxymoron.
