After sustained lobbying from the packaged food and beverage industry, the Food and Drug Administration announced Tuesday an indefinite delay in the launch of Nutrition Fact labels that were intended to help Americans eat more healthfully.
The labels, championed by former First Lady Michelle Obama, were supposed to add a special line for added sugars and emphasize calorie content in large, bold text. They had been scheduled for rollout in July 2018, with a one-year extension for smaller manufacturers.
The delay is the latest reversal of the Obama administrations nutrition reforms under Trump. On April 27, the FDA also delayed rules that would have required calorie counts on restaurant menus. A week later, the Department of Agriculture loosened the minimum requirements for the amount of whole grain in school lunches and delayed future sodium reductions.
Consumer groups are already slamming the Nutrition Facts delay as an attack on public health. The largest groups in the food industry, meanwhile, is celebrating what it calls a win for "common-sense" regulation.

What is good for wookies is not necessarily good for humans.
The labels are fine just as they are. And when I go to a Restaurant, the last thing I want to see is the calories. I’m there for good tasting food....not rabbit food.
“healthfully” Is that a real word?
I’ve been scouring the Constitution and the Bill of Rights, trying to find where it says that among the Federal Government’s “enumerated powers” it lists telling us what we can eat.
And what’s pushed as “good” by the wookie mom isn’t at all desired by the wookie kids, who ate in style at their posh private school.
healthfully Is that a real word?
[healthfully Is that a real word?]
Convfefe is a more real word than that....
Great. Now, do something about the restaurant menus.
On most of them now I can’t tell the calorie count from the price.
Well I guess that’s one positive of the press having their collective heads so far up Trumps rear end. The’re so consumed by their agenda and hopefully Trump is using that as cover to get stuff done.
A few of the networks even lead with a Trump story and pushed the Manchester, UK attack to second place when that event occurred.
Isn’t this the one that would require novel-length labels for restaurants?
Trumps FDA just took another swipe at Michelle Obamas food legacy
...
Michelle carries around her food legacy as a 100 lbs of extra fat.
I eat paleo and non processed food and I’ll still second that-if I’m in a restaurant spending my hard earned money, I’m not interested in the calorie count of the meal I’m there to enjoy as a treat-and I don’t suppose prize heifer Michelle or the other food Nazis know that all calories are not created equal nutritionally...
Wasn’t this the rule that meant that Domino’s would have to have 37 million different labels because that was all the possible combinations of pizzas a customer could order?
Yeah, with every news story about her Commie food regulations, they should have been forced to show the posh weekly menu from the girls’ school!
The headline on this Washington Post story refers to “Trump’s FDA.”
What a farce.
Probably 90% of the people working at the FDA voted for Clinton.
Why Freepers Why?
It did not work for Chu, Chubaka.
Cut the carbs mooch.
