We don't usually cover straight-up news as such here on the floss, but this particular item was so out there -- and so geeky at the same time -- I just couldn't let it fall through the cracks. For the first time ever, Vatican astronomers have admitted the possibility -- even the probability -- of intelligent life on other planets.
Vatican official Father Gabriel Funes, a respected astronomer in his own right, released an article titled, literally, Aliens Are My Brother, detailing various extraterrestrial scenarios as they relate to Christian theology.
He compares the potential multiplicity of life forms in the universe to that here on Earth, and goes on to speculate that such alien life forms could even be "free from Original Sin ... [remaining] in full friendship with their creator." (In short, expect to hear lots more conspiracy theories about how Jesus and the angels were aliens in the near future.)
But it's not just the Catholic Church that has aliens on the brain -- also this week, the British government released years' worth of newly-declassified documents pertaining to UFO sightings in British airspace. "The Ministry of Defence does not deny that there are strange things to see in the sky," one internal memo explains, "but it certainly has no evidence that alien spacecraft have landed on this planet." (Suuuure, guys.)
You can check out the newly-released records here, the most hilarious bits of which, in our opinion, are the vigorous and exceedingly formal tiffs between various dukes, lords and viscounts in the British House of Lords regarding UFOs, like this one:
lords.jpgViscount Long: My Lords, if the Noble Earl is suspicious that the Ministry of Defence is covering up in any way, I can assure him ... the sole interest of the MoD in UFO reports is to establish whether they reveal anything of defence interest.
Lord Wynne-Jones: My Lords, does the Answer given mean that since there has been a Conservative Government the UFOs have done a U-turn and departed?
The Earl of Kimberley: My Lords, as my noble friend said that 600 UFOs had been officially reported or acknowledged by the MoD in 1984, may I ask him how many of those sightings still remain unidentified?
Viscount Long: My Lords, we do not have the figures. They disappeared into the unknown before we got them.
Lord Hill-Norton: My Lords, may I ask the noble Viscount whether or not it is true that all of the sighting reports received by the MoD before 1962 were destroyed because they were deemed "to be of no interest"? And if it is true, who was it who decided that they were of no interest?"
Viscount Long: My Lords, my reply to the noble and gallant Lord -- I was wondering whether he was going to say the the Royal Navy had many times seen the Loch Ness monster -- is that since 1967 all UFO reports have been preserved.
Conspiracy/comedy gold!
Now they attack him over the withdrawal from the Paris Accords on Climate Change.
The Vatican is a NWO anti-American entity.
While Jesus is not an American, attacks on this nation such at that from the Vatican are anti-Christ, because of the Christian foundations of this nation and the freedoms this nation represents.
This article on the Vatican and aliens just shows how far from the Bible they are...
The Lord warns us against believing "angels of light" if they preach anything but the Good News because Satan disguises himself in order to deceive "even the elect of Christ, if possible".
Vatican pushing an alien agenda? Anti-Christ liars. No wonder Paul preached against the false asceticism of monasticism.
Introduce them to the Posleen.
I must have missed something. Did anyone say anything about LGM’s being “angels of light”?
Brothers?
You mean like Cain & Abel?
Its been awhile but I recall in “Watch on the Rhein” the Posleen had already eaten the billions of muslims on earth. It be in on some Posleen but no that many. Mainly in the inner cities.
Are you asking if the omniscient God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob warned us or not about not being deceived by “angels of light” who might disguise themselves as “aliens from other planets”?
There's no mention in the Bible about aliens from other planets. If you can find that in your Concordance, be sure to let me know.
Nicely done.
When the Vulcans and Klingons arrive, we’ll see about that.
Are you making a distinction between “angels of light” and “aliens from another planet” because you agree with the Vatican?
Are you trying to say that the God of Abraham Isaac and Jacob wants us to believe in aliens who claim they are from “other planets”?
A real Catholic will read the great father of the Church, Thomas Aquinas. He writes logically and reasonably using Christian ethics:

Some of those in the Vatican should try Aquinas.
The Pope attacked Donald Trump during the campaign... over the building of the Wall.
While as a Catholic I am thoroughly disgusted with this guy (pope Francis) and do not rush to defend him. He did not directly refer to Trump by name in his infamous bridges remark while in a returning flight from the US. It was a Reuters reporter who deliberately inserted Trump’s name into a constructed misquote when that conversation was fed to the US by that wire service.
Perhaps the intention for doing so was the reporters intention was that he lose the South Carolina primary going on at the time. But by doing so it looked to the protestant majority there as if the “Papists” were trying to influence the election. And you cite the result.
Like everything they’ve said (since the approximate time Paul wrote 1 Timothy 4), they’re wrong.
I am stating the obvious, that Biblically, the subject simply does not come up.
There are many questions not covered in Scripture. Among them, questions concerning quantum physics, gene-splicing, Artificial Intelligence, pulmonary hypertension, the existence of life on other planets, and the hypothesis that there is ether between the stars.
The God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob did not allude to the question of aliens from other planets in Their Book.
LOL, thanks Dick and thank you again for all you do...!
Not a huge Aquinas fan, but he absolutely nails the issue.
I actually have a friend who thinks we should have open borders for illegals because that’s what the ancient Jews in (theocratic) Israel did.
Thank you for this great article.
