Since his dramatic ride down the escalator to announce his candidacy for president, Donald Trump has attracted comparisons to President Richard Nixon.
Some have been positive and striking: The scrappy Republican fighter who outmaneuvers all competitors with a savvy appeal to the forgotten great silent majority including disaffected Democrats thereby creating a new popular movement. The political self-made man who bypasses the elites, enraging them. The iconoclast with a vision that matched the moment. Other common threads have been less flattering: The man sensitive to attacks, real and perceived. The burgeoning investigations. A high-profile firing. The appointment of a special counsel. Top aides in the crosshairs. A braying media. A suggestion of White House tapes. Impeachment chatter.
Of course, Nixon and Trump are different men in different eras and circumstances, and any historical analogy only goes so far. The current Russia investigation is not Watergate. Watergate had provable crimes, while thus far, there has been no evidence whatsoever of any wrongdoing by Trump or his team.

The warnings the KkK would give Democrats on civil war
I don’t think Nixon would have anything to offer Trump as he had nothing to offer Reagan. Reagan was an enigma to Nixon and Trump would be also, Nixon was politics and power from beginning to end. The difference between Nixon and the Left is Nixon loved America, but he loved political power and glory more. A GOPe guy all the way.
To have Monica Crowley to suggest some grasp or understanding of Nixon (of all people) is the amazing side to this story. Perhaps the advice from Nixon to Hillary?
Nixon created the EPA and PBS. He nominated liberals to the Supreme Court including the author of Roe vs Wade, Harry Blackmun. His economic policies were horrible and led to gas prices doubling like Jimmy Carter and price increases of thirty percent at once on many other items. Violent crime was through the roof and even Patty Hearst wasn’t safe.
So then he gave us the 55 MPH hour speed limit, and unleashed the cops to ticket the smallest violations by drivers.
Watergate was the cherry on top for this guy. No comparisons to Trump should be made at all, other than the Democrats and media are out to get him.
I do not hold Trump responsible for the analogies and insults the entrenched power brokers use to try to take him down. The establishment is responsible for its collective bullying, not Trump.
Thank God he fights back.
I wonder how history would have changed had Nixon stood his ground instead of bowing under the pressure and eventually resigning. His actions made it all the much more difficult for conservatives after him, because he showed the elitist power brokers that they can target even a president for destruction and be successful.
Democrats controlled congress under Nixon. Today the Republican can keep a lid on this crap.
Why would anyone with half of a function brain listen to this harlot mediot!
This is just more fake non news posing as news!
I used to confuse Candy Crowley with Monica Crowley. I suspect you are doing the same thing. If not, I apologize.
I see the #NeverTrumpers talk about how "Nixon had his supporters till the end" and laugh.
Those 30% didn't want to bleed out the people attacking Nixon. 😀
How was Nixon a threat to the Republican Establishment?
Apparently you are unaware
As a student, Crowley began writing letters to former President Richard Nixon, who hired her as a research assistant in 1990[8] when she was 22 years old.[7][9] She was an editorial adviser and consultant on Nixon’s last two books, and following Nixon’s death, she published two books about him.

I have little faith in the GOP to “keep a lid on this crap.” Moat of the GOP is out to get Trump as well as the Democrats.

Monica Crowley knows what Nixon would think because she’s one with dead people and ghost? Or she’s just full of s*it like most liberal elites...
You are correct!
