Police: Man staying at Trump Hotel arrested with guns, ammo in car

WASHINGTON (ABC7) — A man who was staying at the Trump Hotel in Northwest Washington was arrested early Wednesday morning after guns were found inside his car, D.C. police report.

Police say 43-year-old Bryan Moles of Edinboro, Pennsylvania left a gun in plain view inside his car. After searching the vehicle, authorities say they also located another gun in the glove compartment and 90 rounds of ammo.

A law enforcement official tells ABC News that Moles told someone about the guns in his car and that person alerted police. Moles reportedly told police he is a military veteran and suffers from PTSD and that he stayed at the hotel because he likes President Trump. It's unclear if he posed any threat.

The Trump Hotel issued the following statement:

"We take the safety and security of guests very seriously. It is our first priority.

This morning, the authorities arrested a guest who was behaving suspiciously. The matter is under investigation therefore it would be inappropriate for us to provide additional details. Please refer your inquiry to the investigating authorities."

Moles has been charged with carrying a pistol without a license -- it's illegal to have an assault rifle and handgun without a license in the District.

Which is it? Is it illegal to "carry" or to "have" without a license in DC. Seems to me he was arrested for "transporting" firearms as they were in his vehicle and not on his person. Is visibility of a weapon just cause for seizure, arrest? Seems like there should be more to this story.

Oh, for crying out loud. Makes it sound like the hotel is almost in the suburbs. NW comprises the largest part of of the District of Columbia, including the entire Federal area from the Capitol Building over and up.

Proper terminology for where the Trump Hotel is located is "downtown Washington" or "Pennsylvania Avenue at 11th St NW" or "blocks from the White House" or "between the White House and the Capitol Buliding".

In this lower map, the Trump International Hotel is located approximately a city block below the letter "t" in the word "Washington."
