~The FReeper Canteen Presents~

Road Trip: USCG Training Center Cape May, New Jersey

Training Center Cape May is the 5th largest base in the Coast Guard and the sole accession point for the entire enlisted workforce. This is why the U.S. Coast Guard considers the training center the birthplace of the enlisted corps and Cape May County, the Coast Guard’s Hometown.

Sewell Point, the area occupied by the Training Center, has a long history of naval presence. During the American Revolutionary War and throughout the nineteenth century, Cape May Sound was used as a harbor of refuge. In 1917, the Navy established a "section base" in Cape May, to provide training, vessel support and communication facilities for coastal defense.

For over fifty years, Coast Guard Training Center Cape May has fulfilled its mission by building the enlisted corps. It provides seaman apprentices, fireman apprentices, seamen, and firemen to the Coast Guard Fleet -- generally en route to "A" schools -- as well as sending some personnel directly to "A" schools.

Although modern training facilities have replaced most of the original Naval Base buildings, the Coast Guard is respectful of the history of Sewell Point and their host city.

Recognizing the enduring relationship between the greater Cape May region, on the evening of Friday, 8 May 2015, the Commandant of the Coast Guard, Admiral Paul F. Zukunft, proclaimed Cape May County a “Coast Guard Community,” one of only 17 in the nation.

Hey there, Kathy!

FR’s been slow for me tonight but it’s been working eventually. Must have been a problem on your end that kept you from being able to get on at work and having to post twice now.

We had some decent rain last night and are getting a light rain tonight. It would be nice if y’all could have the same luck especially since everything’s coming to life after your brutal winter. It’s nice to see green grass on the Anchorage live cams.

Hey - Cape May - that’s right down the road from me - great summer beach resort - used to be the summer destination for many bigwigs from Philly, about 60 miles away - lots of quaint old restored Victorian homes and shops - not a bad place at all to do one’s service time......

Hi, Kathy! (((hugs)))

Hope you had a good day today....and that your weekend was without any new drama on the home front! Did the “jello shots” do your mom any good at all? Just wondered...

A very pleasant good Tuesday morning and ((hugs)) to everyone at the Canteen and to all our military at home and abroad. Thanks for your service to our country.

We are having IP rounder issues here at the house so my activity will be limited today. Hoping to get these problems fixed soon.

Good morning, Everyone.

Good morning to our

Military, our Allies, and their families.

Thank you, Lauren, for preparing the
Canteen for today’s activities.

Road Trip! Climb aboard.

Checking in.
This is definitely a post-n-run,
since I am way behind schedule.

It's another rainy day, and will be
most of the week, so no fence painting (sigh...hehehe)
But, have to take the girls out for a walk
while we have break in the rain.

Please stay.
Grab a cup of joe or tasty tea.
Chat with the military and/or the family they left behind.

The FR Canteen is

Come on in and sit for a while.
There's always plenty of coffee, tea,
pancakes, conversation,
silliness,
and plain old BS

REMEMBER THEM ~ DEFENDERS OF FREEDOM

Goood mornin', Early Birds!
We had another nice rain last night!
I could get used to this!
Maybe my poor grass will spread better now!
It kind of took a hit over the winter.
Hope all y'all have a Terrific Tuesday!
Do something fun!
...now or after work!
It's good for the soul!
((((hugs))))
