Villagers say theyll boycott St Davids Church, in Blaenporth, Ceredigion, Wales, in protest.
Church bosses say pilates is OK, but not yoga, which might be seen to be in conflict with Christian values and belief.
And it's a hard argument to beat since so many Christians are so down with showing their collective asses over the most paltry garbage.
Why would you think so?
Your previous post was predicted on the foundation that one religion is very like another.
If it's just exercise, why not go with a fitness program that doesn't have the Eastern mystical garbage, instead?
No dentists either then.
So is vegetarianism.
Much ado about nothing, I think. Standing on your head isn't going to convert you. Or anyone.
That said, don't do yoga. It can wreck your neck, back and hip joints and send you to the hospital if not practiced correctly. No westerner does it correctly. For one thing, we grew up sitting in chairs, Hindus sat cross-legged on the ground.
Those who fear stretching as a path to damnation, are themselves, insecure in their own faith.
Ignorance is bliss.
Not to mention, fat chicks in yoga pants should be considered a federal crime.
Now I’m intrigued, what’s the ultimate truth?
“Predicted”? I think ment to use another word. How about “predicated”? And, no not all religions are the same. The eastern faiths are more spiritual, the western are more cultist.
Figure it out yourself.
Baptism would be called a bath, except for that whole, “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ” thing that precedes it.
Yoga without occult imagery and meditation is the same. Your argument is absurd on its face: what if a believer inadvertently entered a yoga poses? Is he or she damned for blasphemy or idolatry?
You are granting demons dominion over creation and speaking in fear. Shall we flee from everything in the world, or enjoy the goodness of God’s creation? Nothing is inherently evil. One may partake or abstain, as long as they do so in good conscience.
Christian yoga! Good for you.
I wrote predicated.
My phone auto-spellcorrects.
It doesn’t have much of a vocabulary.
I actually did yoga and was profoundly influenced by dark spirits. Over time my worldview went from basically Judeo-Christian to New Age. I had horrific nightmares every night that I wasn’t aware of until I married my husband and he told me about my mid-night screams. When I became a true believer in Jesus and threw away all my yoga books, I was basically harassed by a demonic spirit until I told it to be gone in the Name of Jesus.
The New Age teaching that we can become gods is the lie that satan told in the garden, and yoga, at least for me, was the open door for deception in my life. There is a very real spiritual influence in yoga - I applaud this church.
I think you need psychological help. Hope you’re not married...you are wrecking someone’s life.
Ok, I'll bite. All I know about yoga is that it looks pretty silly except when done by young women in tight outfits. So I ain't pretending to any expertise. I may be terribly naïve, but yoga stripped to its essentials has always seemed to me to be a form of meditation, which is a common practice in many religions, including Christianity.
I imagine that yoga is taught and practiced in many ways, including some that are Hindu-ish, which is probably a good marketing gimmick in communities where a lot of people want to be trendy and "different," as long as they can be different in lockstep with everyone else.
That said, I'm not aware that there is any Official Script that you have to repeat to do yoga. Repeating a mantra as an aid to inducing a sense of calm and dissociation from bodily sensations? Isn't that what rosary beads are all about? Why can't you do Christian yoga, non-denominational yoga, Jewish yoga, or anything else? Change the word yoga if you want, and just call it meditation.
Good post. Easter, however, did not start as a pagan practice. It is Pascha (=Passover) -— most languages reflect this: Pascua, Pesach, etc.-—and the roots are Jewish, not gentile.
I agree. I’m not a true yoga practioner like your wife, not even close.
I do a few yoga poses on my Wii Fit routine. I love it. I can’t do hard, intense exercises because of a congenital heart defect, a bad back & arthritis. The beginner yoga poses I do are fun & helps my body.
There is nothing “religious” about it. There’s no chanting nor does the virtual instructor say “namaste”. She just guides me through the poses.
The complainers are probably the same people who believe that dancing is a sin.
Geez what a snob you are
A Jesus snob
