A Moreno Valley man went in for a green card, but was deported instead

Ramon Ruiz Ortiz of Moreno Valley went to San Bernardino’s U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services office at 10 a.m. May 11 to interview for a green card giving him permanent residency. By 7 p.m., he’d been deported to Tijuana.

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, or ICE, officials said he applied using a false name and that he had been removed previously and then had returned here illegally, making him ineligible for a green card, according to ICE.

Now, his family and an attorney representing the Mexican Consulate in San Bernardino are trying to figure out what happened to the man they describe as a hard-working husband and father with no criminal record. They contend he should not have been deported.

He and his family insist he is who he says he is.

Right after he was deported, Ruiz and his family believed that previous contact with Customs and Border Protection in 1999 is what led to his deportation, said attorney Hadley Bajramovic, who represents the Mexican Consulate in San Bernardino. Ruiz was aware of this, but a different attorney told him it wouldn’t pose problems.

But on Thursday, May 18, ICE issued a statement painting a different picture. The agency said Ruiz attempted to fraudulently obtain lawful permanent residence under an assumed name. An ICE official declined to say what they think his real name is, citing privacy concerns.

However, a May 11 U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services document detailing why Ruiz’s application to register for permanent residence was denied calls him Ramon Ruiz Ortiz.

Thanks. I love a feel good story.

Almost as good as one of those where a store owner empties his pistol into a robber.

“He held the same job at Greatwide Distribution Logistics in Ontario for 14 years,...”

Why was Greatwide Distribution Logistics employing a criminal alien?

“She (Bajramovic) later e-mailed a reporter with scanned copies of identification documents, including Ruiz’s Mexican passport and birth certificate along with his U.S. Social Security card and Riverside County wedding certificate.”

How did this criminal alien get a Social Security card? The answer is simple. He stole someone’s identity.

Anyone else see the logical disconnect here?

May be IQ related. Test him in Mexican.

Illegal aliens don’t get green cards...

green cards (Alien Registration Cards with the Alien registration number) are for registered aliens...

illegal aliens are not registered aliens...

Illegal aliens are not immigrants of any type...

How many times must I say this and other items about immigration Vs illegal aliens ???

Take notes there’ll be a pop quiz...

and yes students this will be on the final...

Hes been here since at least 1999...

without a green card he was working here ILLEGALLY ...a CRIME..

an immigrant is eligible for a green card and applies for one the first visit to the INS/ICE etc...the first day the local office is open after arrival...not 18 years later...

right now if he is really breaking his neck to “do the right thing” hed be heading home to Mexico...

An ICE official declined to say what they think his real name is, citing privacy concerns.

He likely beat the ICE van back across and is using another fake name.

Unless changed recently, one had to apply for permanent residency (green card) at an embassy or consulate within their home country. It took 18++ months and you had to have a sponsor guaranteeing you would not need government assistance. INS had nothing to do with it.

DITTO!!
This is how it works. Most Hispanics have MULTIPLE names, Luis Ramirez Hidalgo Ruiz Fernandez, for example. That is their legal name and they can-and DO- use any combination of it. So Luis can have ID as Luis Hidalgo, Luis Ruiz, etc. along with all the benefits of every ID. They caught this one. His family is free to follow him to their beloved homeland.

the man they describe as a hard-working husband and father with no criminal record

Two problems with this oft-repeated statement:

"Hard-working" and fatherhood has nothing whatsoever to do with whether or not a person is here illegally; and,

Just because an illegal alien has not been charged with the crime of illegal entry does not, in any way, excuse or mitigate the person's lawbreaking behavior.

Case closed.

The wait depends on the country and the individual. For a normal individual, the wait is in years, like 5 years, after the initial process. For countries such as China or India, the wait is in decades, for the green card.

Not sure about the guarantee of non gubmint assistance. Once you have green card, you are guaranteed all welfare rights of the citizen except to vote or hold office.
