Scattering Seeds
May 14, 2017
The seed falling on good soil . . . produces a crop, yielding a hundred, sixty or thirty times what was sown.
Matthew 13:23
I received a wonderful email from a woman who wrote, Your mom was my first-grade teacher at Putnam City in 1958. She was a great teacher and very kind, but strict! She made us learn the 23rd Psalm and say it in front of the class, and I was horrified. But it was the only contact I had with the Bible until 1997 when I became a Christian. And the memories of Mrs. McCasland came flooding back as I re-read it.
Jesus told a large crowd a parable about the farmer who sowed his seed that fell on different types of grounda hard path, rocky ground, clumps of thorns, and good soil (Matt. 13:19). While some seeds never grew, the seed falling on good soil refers to someone who hears the word and understands it and produces a crop yielding a hundred, sixty or thirty times what was sown (v. 23).
During the twenty years my mother taught first grade in public schools, along with reading, writing, and arithmetic she scattered seeds of kindness and the message of Gods love.
Her former students email concluded, I have had other influences in my Christian walk later in life, of course. But my heart always returns to [Psalm 23] and [your mom's] gentle nature.
A seed of Gods love sown today may produce a remarkable harvest.
Lord, today I want my life to sow good seeds in those around me. Help me to give out what You have put into me.
We sow the seedGod produces the harvest.
We see the agricultural metaphor of sowing seed again in the book of 1 Corinthians. The apostle Paul taught the Corinthian believers for eighteen months (see Acts 18:111) and then Apollos watered the spiritual seed Paul had sown (Acts 18:27; 1 Cor. 3:49). Paul made it clear that those who spread the gospel are only Gods servants doing the work the Lord has assigned them to do (1 Cor. 3:5). While Paul planted the seed in the hearts of the Corinthian believers and Apollos watered it, it was God who made it grow.
At different times in our life we may be the one who is planting the message of Gods truth and love, and at other times we are the one who is watering. Whats important is that it is God who makes the seed grow.
As Gods worker, what seeds can you plant in someones life?

Last night I tried to find the introduction to
I Remember Mama. They have an inauthentic one on YouTube, not the real one. If I could remember the name of the street their house was on, I could quote the whole thing. Anyone remember?
"I remember _____ Street and the house where I was born. My little sister Dagmar, my big brother Nels, and of course, Papa. But most all, I remember Mama."

I normally do not post on this thread but I cannot let this story pass. It is well worth the read! The following song is named, "El Todopoderoso," which translates as "The All Powerful".
A young lady we know graduated nursing school last summer so that she immediately became an emergency room nurse. Shortly after graduation she got married and became pregnant.
After the first of the year her doctor told her that she was going to give birth to a little girl.....BUT.....the little girl would be born with spina bifida. The doctor then told her that she and her husband would have to decide to abort or let the child be born and live with the consequences. The doctor gave to them a week to decide.
After the week she and her husband returned to the doctor's office to inform him that they had decided to let the little girl be born and shower her with love regardless of the consequences and an uncertain future.
When they told the doctor he said that he wanted them to make the decision without his influence. He want on to say that there have been successful operations that would remove the spina bifida from the little girl and that she would be born normally and live a happy and healthy life.
He told them that he was going to call in a team of doctors would review her charts, X-rays, MRIs as well as all other tests to see if they thought if she was a good candidate for the surgery. He explained that the little girl would be removed from her womb by C-Section, the spina bifida removed from the little girl then reinserted back into her womb.
After extensive testing by this team of doctors the couple found out a few weeks ago that the surgery was a "Go."
Last week the surgery was performed and was successful. The doctors told the couple that they can expect their little girl to be born without any complications and live a normal, healthy life.
When Mrs. spel's aunt, who was 96 at the time, fell and was in terrible shape. However, she made a full recovery and a week later she was back to her normal routine. Her son visited her. She told him, "I really thought that I had bought the farm this time." He replied, "Science and technology fell on you!"
It seems that science and technology fell on this young couple, too, but I also think that "The All Powerful" had something to do with the outcome for this young couple.
I say, "Wow! What a Mother's Day present this young couple received this year!"
