Syria’s Foreign Minister Walid al-Moualem on Monday said there had been an apparent change of attitude towards Syria by the US administration following the Russian plan for “de-escalation” zones.
“It seems the United States, where (President Donald) Trump has said the Syrian crisis has dragged on too long, might have come to the conclusion that there must be an understanding with Russia on a solution.”
Asked about US backing for Kurdish groups fighting Islamic State in northeast Syria, Moualem said that what Syrian Kurds were doing against the jihadist group was “legitimate” at this stage and fell within the framework of preserving Syrian unity, Reuters reported.
The foreign minister also pledged that the Syrian government would abide by the “de-escalation” plan agreed on by Russia, Iran and Turkey provided that rebels also did do.
Seems what Kurds and US are doing is OK.

Nobody should make the mistake of trusting Assad or any of his family.
Nobody that knows him, questions that statement.
At this point, the US is throwing him a rope.
Even though the US might have been backing jihadists, and even though I have called them on it, that doesn’t mean that Assad is a good guy.
This is a war with evil actors on just about every side, and Assad is one of the worst of them.
Assad was/is bad.
ISIS is pure evil. And must die.
I remember when Assad was the lefts darling. Photo someplace on these interwebs of John Kerry and wife having dinner with the Assads.
Why not? He’s better and more decent of a human being in every single way compared to the Saudi leaders.
In Assads Syria you can openly be a Christian, any type of moslem, a kurd, and there is even a very small historic Jewish group in Damascus. Women can go on a date, drive a car, and don’t have to wear a tent. You can sample locally made beer or have a whiskey or a glass of wine.
I’ll trust Assad over our Sunni “allies” any day.
This Assad is not his dad. He left and became an eye doctor in London and basically came back because the alternatives were not very cool. And though elections there are likely more corrupt than those in Philly, he at least has one. Saudis don’t.

What you state is true.
But he is know for his brutal side also. That comes from people who have lived under his rule a lifetime.
Those visits were about 2007, when Assad was a “reformer”
Then along came Obama bowing to the Saudi King, Clintons raking in millions from Saudi and Gulf Arabs, and “Arab Spring” to remove every secular or non-wahabbist leader from the middle east map of countries
In Bashir Al Assad’s case, a “lifetime” would be 17 years, since 2000 when he was first elected and has been reelected twice since in 2007 and again in 2014
He is neither his father Hafez nor his reckless screw loose brother Basel, the groomed heir-apparent who was killed in an accident
The serious death toll in Syria started only after the incited “civil” war started targeting his government with snipers - police and military and supporters and their families - resulted from typical “arab spring” tactics as we have seen in other countries, including Ukraine. Before 2011 and the western/Saudi plot to overthrow Assad by forcing him into a force crackdown on his opponents, it’s hard to find any good data on Syrians killed by their own government, ie, Bashir Al Assad...the “hundreds of thousands of deaths” figure is the combined total of deaths from the so-called “civil war” (so-called because it was foreign instigated funded planned and supported by tens of thousands of foreign jihadist were/are fighting in Syria
The most apparently neutral observers reporting on the ground from Syria indicate Assad is very popular

The Kurds were given autonomy by Assad only so long as they didn’t actively participate in the civil war (fight Assad).

Yes, it still resonates with them. The Syrian Kurds are a unique group. They have done a great job of unifying the mixed local groups. ISIS animals have shaken a lot of the borders between local elements. I’ve seen a lot of spontaneous quotes by those who were liberated from ISIS. Pretty amazing stuff. Like “Never again”, but amplified.
They are politically far to the left of me. But I truly respect and like them. And that has grown into some excellent friendships over the past 3 years since Kobane.
I plan on being here until this is over. If I live that long. smile.
