President Trump said Friday that "everybody" has better healthcare than the United States.
Of course the Australians have better healthcare than we do --everybody does. ObamaCare is dead! But our healthcare will soon be great, Trump tweeted.
Of course the Australians have better healthcare than we do --everybody does. ObamaCare is dead! But our healthcare will soon be great. Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) May 5, 2017
The president raised eyebrows Thursday night when he heaped praise on Australia's universal healthcare system even though that type of system is widely derided by conservatives.
Trump's latest comments appear to contradict his own spokeswoman, Sarah Huckabee Sanders, who said earlier Friday that "he was simply being complimentary of the prime minister and I dont think it was much more than that.
Speaking at an event in New York on Thursday night with Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull, Trump told the Australian leader, You have better healthcare than we do.
Australias healthcare system consists of both a private market and a government-run option.
Trump's comments came hours after the House narrowly passed the GOP plan aimed at repealing and replacing former President s signature healthcare law.
"It's a very good bill right now. The premiums are going to come down very substantially. The deductibles are going to come down. It's going to be fantastic healthcare. Right now ObamaCare is failing; we have a failing healthcare," Trump said Thursday alongside Turnbull.
Critics, such as Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.), have noted the Australian system is the opposite of the GOP plan.
Thank you, Mr. President, a laughing Sanders said on MSNBC on Thursday night. Let us move to a Medicare-for-all system that does what every other major country on Earth does: guarantee healthcare to all people at a fraction of the cost per capita that we spend.
During the 2016 campaign, Trump said his healthcare plan would ensure coverage for all Americans. But the House GOP bill could result in lost coverage for millions of Americans.
An analysis from the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office on a previous version of the House GOP bill in March said it would result in 24 million Americans losing or electing to give up their insurance coverage over the next decade.
Earlier today Krauthammer was predicting the US would have Single Payer health insurance in less than seven years.
He’s wrong. It’ll be sooner than that.
Did Bernie read aloud from his porno stylings during the show?
Very hard to turn back the free stuff clock.
WE HAVE THE ABSOLUTE BEST HEALTH CARE ON THE PLANET !
THE ISSUE IS NOT HEALTH CARE
THE ISSUE IS PAYING FOR IT.
Talking about Obamacare. he’s right.
Kraut has been consistently wrong about everything for a year and a half.
Let’s hope his track record is unbroken.
As someone with practical experience I like to state that most Western nations have CHEAPER healthcare, but not necessarily BETTER healthcare.
Afghanis have better healthcare than us? I think he’s right because I’m self employed and I can’t afford Obamacare so if I get sick or injured I’m basically screwed. For example I’m 54 and I should be getting colonoscopies ESPECIALLY since colon cancer runs in my family, but it would cost me $1600 a pop so I am basically gambling with my life over money.
Not taking him literally, but if I did, Trump would just be wrong. Nobody can be right all the time. Not even the President. Maybe especially not a President.
I lived in Australia 76-78 and was glad I never had to use a Dr. while there. They did have some advances not commonly here yet (friend got a thoe- big toe made into a thumb as he had blown it off in a gun accident a few years before) but generally not so good.
RE: Trump is sounding like a libturd
If people were paying attention, he was already praising Canada’s healthcare system before he was even the official GOP candidate. See here for instance:
Long story short.
Don’t play laser tag in the UK and break your ankle.
President Trump says dumb stuff sometimes. I doubt he means exactly that. The USA has the most complex, difficult to navigate, expensive and unbalanced health care system,
but it offers the best available care in the world.
I will most always give him a pass.
God Bless President Trump!!
Stupid and incorrect.
After ObamaCare, he has a point.
You forgot to put “free stuff” in quotes...the withholding from my paycheck demands it! ;-)
It’s not what he ran on, and if I remember correctly he’s also been on record saying that it wouldn’t work in the USA.
I don’t care about health care. BUILD THE WALL./S
