The success of Marine Le Pen in the first round of the French presidential election has the global left resorting to its usual exaggerations and dire predictions of a fascist resurgence. As happened with the progressive smears of Donald Trump, Le Pen’s similar appeals to patriotism, national identity, and the need to defend the nation’s culture and interests are immediately turned into sinister dog-whistles for the crypto-fascists, racist hordes just waiting for the Great Leader to start the pogroms and fill the gulags.
One hundred days into Trump’s administration, of course, nothing has happened that comes even close to beginning a fascist transformation of America. But the persistent phenomenon of the eternal fascist threat raises old questions about and other failed collectivists political ideologies.
Why is “fascism” or “right-wing” an epithet, but “communist” or “left-wing” isn’t? Why do the media, even those considered conservative, use a phrase like “extreme right” or “hard right,” but seldom use “extreme left” or “hard left”? Why is Le Pen’s National Front regularly described with such epithets, but Communist Parties or radical Green Parties rarely are? And why is there the vaguely honorific cliché “a man of the left,” but not the equivalent “a man of the right”?

I have been saying for two years now that there is just no way back to the past. Like every freeper I have been hoping for a return to a Constitutional Republic but I think we have to realize that it just ain’t possible. There is no way to where we want to go from where we are. Tyranny is where we are headed, the question is will it be the tyranny of socialism or something else? If Trump can’t become the “something else” the alternative is the default. Trump may not want to be a tyrant but I assure you Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer have no problem with it.
I wish I were wrong about it and if someone can see a path to where we want to be they will be only too happy to point it out.

It is because only fascism threatens the communists.
Let’s be honest. Fascism appeals to the same base human vanities as communism = envy, greed, and resentment. But fascism channels these vanities in a way that facilitates production and distribution and leaves its mass of supporters, on the whole, better off, while communism wrecks production, f***s up distribution, and leaves its supporters starving.
It’s not a coincidence that in all the Hollywood movies, the worst thing a villain can be is a “fascist”. It’s not a coincidence that every politician or political movement which threatens to slow our march towards communism is called “fascist”.
When communists wake up at night in a cold sweat, it’s not Mitch McConnell and Paul Ryan who were in their latest nightmare.
