... Hawking, the renowned theoretical physicist turned apocalypse warning system, is back with a revised deadline. In "Expedition New Earth" a documentary that debuts this summer as part of the BBCs "Tomorrows World" science season Hawking claims that Mother Earth would greatly appreciate it if we could gather our belongings and get out not in 1,000 years, but in the next century or so.
You heard the man a single human lifetime. Is this nerd serious?
Thanks, Steve.

I suppose so. We arent’ there yet but we may be on the threshold. I am surprised that there is an International Space Staton that is so ho hum it rarely makes the news. The future you suggest may be right around the corner.
Sadly, Hawking has flipped his cork. However, I will take advantage of his prediction and accumulate as much debt as possible and then wait for “Dooms Day!”
How and why does a man predict the end of Earth? We calculate/estimate that it has existed for 4-5 Billion (these numbers are huge) years. Our Solar system depends on the Sun for everything. When the Sun fades to dark, we will have known for centuries that it was burning out. Still, there will be no place to go and no way to get there, so, sit back, relax and enjoy the show that the liberals will put on for you.
P.S. Don’t give up your guns.

Exactly.
His whole program represents the error of Adam and Eve, which leads only to the devil, sin, suffering, slavery and death.
I could quote verses, but most people here already know them.
Not me :)
We'll have to eventually get off this rock. It will probably be a burned out hulk by the time we really have, but that's OK. I suspect it's how the universe works.
OMG, that's great. Davros has a better vocoder.
Case in point... Ringworld (along with Pournelle - who is also a conservative more or less)
No "more or less" about it. Pournelle IS a conservative, even if he (and Niven) live in California.
He was also a problem solver. The engineering students who chanted at a science fiction convention “Ringworld is unstable” found it the plot of a second book about the jets on the rim and hominid species that took them for space ships ... and Teela’s solution to save Ringworld with the instability and remaining jets.
