Crude Comedians of 'the Resistance'

TV comedy cannot be too harsh when directed at President Donald Trump. There are no limits, and CBS "Late Show" host Stephen Colbert has proven it. Under the rubric of corporate loyalty after the president cut an interview short with CBS "Face the Nation" host John Dickerson and mocked his show as "Deface the Nation," Colbert called the president a "prick-tator," and then suggested the only thing the president's mouth is good for is being a holster for the sexual organ of Russian President Vladimir Putin.

This was on national television, and his audience roared -- and gasped.

The notion of defending Dickerson and CBS as victims of Trump is a ruse. The network was given 33 minutes with the president on "Face the Nation" and 10 minutes on "CBS This Morning," with the president fielding an endless barrage of negative questions before he finally tired of it and calmly cut off Dickerson, saying: "That's enough. Thank you."

To put things in their proper perspective, it could be argued that Trump faced more CBS hostility in one interview than former President Barack Obama faced on CBS in eight years.

Conservative Twitter swiftly imagined the reaction had Colbert aimed this "comedic" fire at Obama -- not to mention Hillary Clinton. He would have been fired. But it was Trump, and where he's concerned, blind hatred is never having to say you're sorry.

CBS refused comment to press inquiries. Colbert was pressed into a measure of regret ... by the gay left, for disparaging same-sex activity. He bowed to them by saying on his show on Wednesday, "Anyone who expresses their love for another person, in their own way is, to me, an American hero." (Think through the criminal stupidity of that statement.) As for Trump, he said: "I have jokes; he has the launch codes; so it's a fair fight."

Does anyone wonder why Trump refused to attend the White House correspondents dinner? This is the level of "humor" he was expected to endure at the hands of industry leaders who despise him."

Liberals think comedians should lead the "resistance" because the journalists are just too damn nice. A video of Colbert's penis joke arrived on Twitter with a promotional sentence that read, "Stephen tells the President everything journalists, restrained by their dignity, wish they could say."

This year, the White House Correspondents Association president and Reuters correspondent, Jeff Mason, displayed the usual schizophrenia by proclaiming it would be "unfair" to roast President Trump in absentia, and then hired Hasan Minhaj of "The Daily Show" -- the son of Muslim Indian immigrants -- to roast Trump. This man is best known for a vicious leftist tirade at another "objective" TV news dinner, including his label for Trump as a "racist Cheeto."

Mason was surely only responding to rejected "Daily Show" host candidate Samantha Bee, who brought her TBS show to Washington, D.C., to tape a "Not the White House Correspondents' Dinner" special. In her taping before the dinner, Bee attempted to outdo Minhaj by comparing Skype questioners at the White House to survivalists who drink their own urine and delighting in the smear that Trump paid for Russian prostitutes to urinate on him.

At the White House dinner, Minhaj uncorked lame jokes about "Nazi Steve Bannon" and Education Secretary Betsy DeVos "curating her collection of children's tears. He insisted: "Donald Trump is liar in chief. And remember, you guys" -- the press -- "are public enemy no. 1. You are his biggest enemy. Journalists, ISIS, normal-length ties. And somehow, you're the bad guys. That's why you gotta keep your foot on the gas."

The left is too angry and frustrated to admit that its poisonous remarks are having the effect of discrediting the liberal media in all its forms. It's congratulating itself while burning down the village in order to save it.

Presidents should be open to criticism and ridicule of folks who oppose them.

My problem was that the mainstream comedy world didn't touch Bill Clinton...until late in his term. And they NEVER mocked Barry....and called anybody who did "WACIST!"

BTW, back in the late 1980's, I used to visit Comedy clubs often...until it dawned on me they were making fun of the same two things: Televangelists and Ronald Reagan (not that they shouldn't have been fodder, but it was basically different takes on the same two subjects. I would've loved to hear a comedian mock Atheists, or feminists, or gays, or Leftists....).

Give CBS a call! This apology is unacceptable! It wasn’t “cruel.” It was vulgar!

There is criticism and ridicule and then their is obscenity.

What Colbert did the other night warranted either a suspension or firing. It was disgusting.

Of course then we have the constant double standard.

"Stephen tells the President everything journalists, restrained by their dignity, wish they could say." http://merecomments.typepad.com/merecomments/2005/06/snippet_kierkeg.html Kierkegaard saw more and more clearly that the media’s transformation of the population into “the public” was accompanied by increasing infantilization, by the deprivation of the individual’s rightful authority, a condition that was all the more catastrophic because it was said to be identical to the public’s self-determination and its supposed possession of influence . . . . “Suppose someone invented an instrument, a convenient little speaking tube that was so powerful it could be heard all over the entire country. Wouldn’t the police forbid it out of fear that its use would result in the whole of society becoming mentally deranged?”

We are going to have to start demanding "equal time" in all forms of media, especially if they continue to brand all of this as political "resistance".

In a way that no one has ever done before, Trump has smoked them all out into the open with their biased political moralizing on full display for everyone to see. If we trust that the American people aren't hypnotized, the ultimate result will be complete and utter distrust of media, with some alternate forms coming on to the scene to kill the current corrupt forms.

There is nothing there for the left.
No open mind.
No understanding of how BOTH Republicans and Democrats have frustrated voters into electing a non-politician with the big mouth.
They don't get why Obama and $10,000,000,000,000 in new debt was a disaster.

We can go on and on, it's like the sky to them is red and the sea is brown, and as long as their Government employed left wing scientist claim it, they will believe it.

They are belligerent drones, one and all.

Presidents should be open to criticism and ridicule of folks who oppose them.

That sentiment MUST go in both directions, else it is simply a directive toward self-immolation on part of a conservative President. The press decries his use of invective against them, while still doubling down on their own outpouring of vitriol.

Even far leftist Oliver Stone has compared the democrats and their lapdog media to suicide bombers, so determined to destroy the Trump presidency, that they are willing to destroy the entire country to get the job done.

Do we all remember the Newsweak magazine cover/headline after 9/11? A photo of a burning tower and underneath the photo - in bold black block lettering WHY DO THEY HATE US? I give you exhibit A -

"Anyone who expresses their love for another person, in their own way is, to me, an American hero." - Stephen Colbert

“I would’ve loved to hear a comedian mock Atheists, or feminists, or gays, or Leftists....). “

For several years I was making long drives to and from work in hours so late or so early that I might fall asleep. I got satellite radio so I could listen to the four comedy channels. I’d switch from one to the next and hardly any five minutes passed that somebody didn’t “joke” about George Bush, conservatives, Christians or cops. The audience laughed and I wondered what they were laughing about as the “jokes” were not only in bad taste, but were also factually baseless. Finally, I got so tired of it I cancelled the service. I have never gone back.

I gave up television for the same reason. I was recently stunned by the high definition TV display in Costco. It was breathtaking. I thought maybe I’d enjoy watching the better-than-reality clarity. Then the news came on. I was repulsed by the tone of the lead anti-cop story. Nope, no TV’s in this house.

We live in a world where this is considered comedy? We live in a world of no respect, vulgarity, rudeness to the enth degree, anger, fighting over a seat, rampaging, riots, destruction of property, and I don’t see it scaling back at all... it’s getting worse. They were given the green light from obama to be ugly and go after the good people ... and they are taking it to the max!

50 years ago, none of this would pass as civility... no one would ever do this to a President of the United States... it’s embarrassing for this to be on national TV and the world see what we have become in those circles. They adored the most disgusting man to ever become the President.. the lawless and fake man who I can not stand... they think he’s the greatest... and bill clinton got a huge pass on his life... the audience is made up of people just like them, or become like them in that atmosphere. .. and it’s a real downer to know they are in the swamp with all the rest who think like that... My President deserves better, and his lovely family... I can’t believe what they all are doing to this family... the division is far and wide... I hope he can withstand.. not many could.

‘Presidents should be open to criticism and ridicule of folks who oppose them’

Not where I come from... disrespect for that office used to be forbidden and it sure was with obama! When John Kennedy was shot, though I did not vote for him nor care for him... the respect was nationwide for him and the family in that tragedy. Today they are calling for worse for my President!!! I think it should be forbidden to say some things on national TV.. but the networks are run by the generation that spawned this crap! They have gone hog wild with disrespect ... it’s a new way of living and it’s horrible!

I live in the south where they teach their children to say “yes mam/sir” and “no mam/sir”. Some parents are still trying in the midst of all this language and hate.

Once upon a time comedians like Abbott and Costello had routines like “Who’s on First”.

Today, Liberal comedians have comedy routines which, in their entirety, consist of: “I hate Republicans”.

Humor isn’t what it used to be.
