NC House Just Passed HB 330 – Allowing Drivers To Legally Hit Protesters Who Block Roads

A new bill has just passed the NC House that would allow North Carolina drivers to legally hit protesters who are blocking the road without being sued, as long as they “exercise due care.”

North Carolina House Bill 330 was passed by a 67-48 vote.

It was introduced by Republican Justin Burr and “provides that a person driving an automobile while exercising due care is immune for civil liability for any injury to another if the injured person was participating in a demonstration or protest and blocking traffic.”

“As we’ve seen, time and time again, as folks run out in the middle of the streets and the interstates in Charlotte and attempt to block traffic,” Burr said. The Republican commented that he wants to ensure that “drivers don’t have to fear driving through Charlotte or anywhere in North Carolina.”

“This bill does not allow for the driver of a vehicle to target protesters intentionally,” he added. “It does protect individuals who are rightfully trying to drive down the road.”

Charlotte saw a number of roads blocked after the death of Keith Lamont Scott and the protests that followed last year.

The bill is now heading to the NC Senate for final approval.

What do you think about the new law?

Do they sell aftermarket cow pushers for cars?

Might qualify as exercising due care.

I go to NC all the time, since I’m 10 miles from the border. This will make it more of a destination now. I’m disappointed in Tennessee for not doing this.

Great clip from The Blues Brothers (1980)

That’s not CGI—those are stunt people going into the drink.

This should be part of self-defense and the belief that one is about to be attacked or is being attacked should justify such actions.

But officer, I got a fly in my eye, something flew in the window and temporarily blinded me, or I was listening to Rachel Maddow and got sick.

Yes !!!!!!!!!!!!

With dashcams I think this can be refined at the state level. A dashcam requirement could perfect this concept. The Federal government should not interfere. Any state brave enough to broach this topic ought to be allowed.

On the flip side, people who walk in front of moving cars are suicidal and need to be confined in padded cells for their own safety.

And what about those sick protestors who block ambulances? That’s attempting first degree murder against the unknown patient IMHO.

It’s only a -100 if you drag her home with you. 100 if you don’t.

Death Race 2000, full movie.

WELL worth watching if only for the performance by legendary disc jockey The Real Don Steele as race announcer Junior Bruce!

It’s like driving through a herd of chickens. They’ll just scatter.

Not necessarily.

I was one of the four volunteers who rebuilt one of the three Sherman tanks used in the Blues Brothers movie. A year before I'd been a gunner in a T-54, and had figured it'd be my last experience with armor.

It didn't work out that way, but by comparison, the WWII-era era M4A1E8 was downright comfy.

Care to come along for a ride, maybe make a stop off at Dairy Queen for an ice cream cone and a soda?
