The Western Schism of the 13th and 14th centuries saw five antipopes contest the legitimate succession to the pontifical throne. The schism was officially put to rest by the Ecumenical Council of Constance in 1417, although three of the five papal charlatans continued unsuccessfully to rebel against the authority of the Council. What we might call the American Schism of our day resembles a bizarre rerun of that sectarian clash, albeit in a secular dimension. For eight years Washington was not Washington, but Avignon on the Potomac, presided over by Anti-President Barack Obama II.
Many observers feel that the controversial ascension of Obama to the White House is no longer newsworthy. The sun has apparently set on Obama’s destructive stewardship of the country. He must be allowed to fade into political irrelevance while the country tackles without distraction the enormous problems that confront it. “There’s a lot of work to do,” writes one commenter to a recently posted article of mine, “Let’s start by consigning Obama to the dustbin of history, and repeat his name no more.”

Obama was ‘Anti’ a lot of things, many of them Pro-American and Pro-Capitalism.
I honestly think that, after eight years of being the center of global attention, the Pretender in Chief is going to lose his mind now that he’s out of power. He simply can’t comprehend that the fairytale is over and he’s nothing more than a nobody now.

Oh, I don’t think he’ll mind being a rich nobody running around the world smoozing with “celebrities” and enjoying himself. Not all that different to what he was doing before, but without the boring bits.
Have other presidents and candidates released all that?
Some of that stuff may already have been in the public record and some of it may have been leaked by third parties, but few candidates release such material if they can possibly avoid it.
Obama isn’t going away.
Maybe not. He may find it hard to stay away.
But right now -- strange as it may be -- Hillary Clinton is actually more of a presence on the national scene than the ex-president.
Obama may find it harder to stay off the golf course than Hillary Clinton can.
Agree with AL. A normal person would be happy to make lots of easy money and cavort with the world’s elites. Obama is not normal, though. He’s a Malignant Narcissist. He needs to be the center of attention. Having experienced that for eight years, it’s likely eating him alive to come down so hard and so fast.
It’s not going to get any easier. Trump has the power and the spotlight. Obama can get some attention by talking about his prospective library, but it just can’t compare to joyriding on AF1.
Obama is in for a rough few years. Given his history, he’s liable to self-medicate as a means of filling the void.

I always called him the narrator-in-chief. He always acted like the problems of the country weren’t his problem but someone else’s. He would speak of these problems with detachment and in the abstract.

I tried taking Zyrtec for allergies and it turned me into a zombie, unable to think and with no memory. If Obama wants to take something that will do that to him I will pay for it.
