Hollywood super-producer Shonda Rhimes says she finds it distressing that in 2017, women’s health needs to be protected as if it were an endangered species. In a speech at Planned Parenthood’s 100th anniversary gala in New York Tuesday night, where she earned the evening’s Champion of Change award, Rhimes — who recently joined the board at the organization — discussed how her hit television shows including Scandal and Grey’s Anatomy offer a glimpse into how the world would look if women were “running things,” and lamented that the female anatomy itself could become extinct in today’s political climate.
“In 2017. Women’s health needs protecting. Like some kind of endangered species. Like, holy crap, vaginas might go extinct,” the showrunner said in her speech, according to a transcript provided to Variety.
“Fact 1 – I just can’t get over the fact that a room full of straight white men who couldn’t find a vulva with two hands and a flashlight are insistent on telling me and all my friends what to do with the vagina we have been driving around America for our entire lives,” she said.
Rhimes concluded her speech by vowing to do “champion-y things” to support women’s health initiatives.
“Women should be running things. But we aren’t. Not everywhere. Not yet,” she said. “There is so much work to be done. And not a lot of time to do it.”
Hillary Clinton, whose presidential campaign Rhimes supported, also delivered remarks at Tuesday’s event.
“As we speak, politicians in Washington are still doing everything they can to roll back the rights and progress we’ve fought so hard for over the last century,” Clinton said. “I mean, could you believe those photos of men around that conference table deciding how to strip away coverage for pregnancy and maternity care?”

Considering that nearly 60 million abortions have been committed since 1973, and about half of those were baby girls, how does what those mean old white Republicans do to implement the "extinction of the vagina" compare to the left's 30 million death count? I stopped watching about the time the character Olivia Pope went through the necessary sacrament of an “abortion on demand”, and it was presented as almost a holy duty. I grew very uninterested in the fate of ANY of the characters after that.
Melly Grant was much too pretty to be Hillary Clinton, but the psychological twists were a lot the same.

Only if you think “women’s health” starts and ends with getting an abortion.
Other than abortions, I’d like her to tell me when or where in history “women’s health” has been better taken care of than in the US today. Even women who give birth are better off health-wise than women from any country or any time in history. So if abortions were completely banned tomorrow, “women’s health” would be in pretty good shape.
And, other than abortions, what aspect of women’s health is at risk of getting worse by anything Trump does.
Everyone knows what a liberal means by “women’s health”. Just come out and say “abortion” and stop trying to redefine another term.

Guess it was the political junkee in me.
But man that show went nuts all over the place.
This Shonda Rhimes is a low-talent throw the show together as if a bad omlette producer. Rhimes also was creater of How to Get Away With Murder and dear Lord that was even worse.
The characters change hither and yon, the plot goes here and over there.
This woman has no talent but those elite Hollywood types pay homage when told to, not when it is warranted.
Okay tell me again that liberals are not mentally ill.
Something tells me there is no vagina under that.
As babies are valued less and less by Western countries, there is simply no compelling reason to breed or keep females (see Red China, India). Contrary to established myths, women bring nothing to the table that men don’t already possess - other than the ability to bear children.
