Kansas City Catholics Banish Girl Scouts and Their Cookies

There's a new commandment for Catholics: Thou Shall Not Eat Tagalongs.

The Archdiocese of Kansas City recently announced they are severing ties with the Girl Scouts. And that means no more Girl Scout cookies, too. Say goodbye to Thin Mints and Do-Si-Do's.

The Washington Post reports that Catholics fear the Girl Scouts’ programs and materials are “reflective of many of the troubling trends in our secular culture,” and that the organization is “no longer a compatible partner in helping us form young women with the virtues and values of the Gospel.”

So the Archdiocese is dumping the Girl Scouts (and their cookies) in favor of American Heritage Girls - a pro-life, Christian-based scouting program.

American Heritage Girls has earned widespread acclaim for being a scouting organization that actually teaches girls about God and Country -- without shoving a radical feminist agenda on little girls.

American Heritage Girls has more than 47 thousand members -- and is growing rapidly -even though they do not sell Thin Mints or Tagalongs.

And as long as the Girl Scouts forces their liberal agenda on impressionable children, I have no doubt that more churches and more families are going to toss their cookies.

More than 40 years ago, I had occasion to visit a local YWCA, and even then it had been taken over by leftist feminists. I suppose that is now what has happened to the Girl Scouts.

This article is garbage. I live in this archdiocese, and there is no “ban”. The Archbishop stated that the official policy of the archdiocese is to deemphasize parish-related GS troops, with an accompanying shift toward Heritage Girls troops.

The language of the headline and article is inflammatory, and reminds me very much of the type of writing I expect to see in the Washington Post - not from Townhall.

The left indoctrinates young skulls full of mush by infiltrating our schools and youth organizations such as the Girl Scouts. We know in an open debate the left never wins. How many libs can articulate their ideology's whacked out positions without resorting to name calling or denigrating the other side in some way? They can't do it so this is how they keep their ideas alive. They get in positions of authority where they can pollute young and naive Americans with their garbage. Sadly, it's​ still effective. Try talking or listening to a millennial and what comes out of their mouths is DNC talking points.

Takeover? It’s been that way since founding. The message was clear, but regional diffusion dampened some of the crazy. They are just getting better at reigning in the independent thought.

GS is a secular organization and unlike BS, troops are not chartered but formed by volunteers under the umbrella of a regional GS Council
Being secular means the membership is very representative of our communities and society where we all live and political values and opinions and matters of faith are up to the girl and her family - our program respects that and tries to stay out of it but
Some of our volunteers are chowderheads and liberal soccer moms so there you go
If you don’t like their influence on your girl, you start your own troop and say the GS Promise as it is written... To serve God and my country
Tens of thousands of boxes of GS cookies are donated to military troops, nursing homes and first responders and I never heard of a troop serving in Afghanistan who turned down a box of tagalongs

I’m not affiliated with American Heritage Girls...much. My daughter is a leader of a troop and I lead the Boys counterpart, Trail Life USA.

There are some trying a coup, some bishops and cardianls. It ain’t easy.

But Francis has crossed the line one too many times for me to believve he even believes in God. Communists just don’t.
