Not a truly bad idea, some people would like to finish off the inside of their home themselves ... but the rendering is just sad. Is this supposed to sell the idea?

Some of the comments are great.

And there could be communal toilets, and a place to barbecue the goats...

The average british home already isn’t a luxury place to live. Its nuts they will charge this much for even less.

I am also assuming this will be for invading muslim jihadis to live in as a base of operations. Will probably be a big step up for most of them. These places will be trashed and filled with exotic disease.

Cool...A one room apartment for 350,000 bucks......Hang some canvass on the walls and they’ll think they’re back home in a tent...

...or these could be stealth bunkers inside the cities.

The invading army can set up shop and be secure when the final battle begins.

The best part, the British government pays for them with grants.

I’m in real estate. So let me just look at this idea in America. (It’s a great idea!)

It’s illegal to sell such a home here. They have these things called occupancy permits. Honestly, to hell with that. Build a shell and sell it. As long as it’s weatherproof, has working utilities and a furnace it’s good to go. You ensure the property is safe and will not get adversely affected by weather. Let the buyer fix up the inside as time and money permit. Besides, framing and drywall isn’t that hard to learn to do yourself. Ditto for adding your own kitchen cabinets and installing interior doors.

The cost of housing is outrageous. It’s a side effect of dual income families I think. Supply and demand right? People want to live in good communities and those that are 100% built-up just increase in price as buyer’s ability to pay goes up. Unfortunately it prices out many. Especially singles who do not have the dual income/fancy job, or a married couple that wants to have a stay at home mom.

This is a solution to help bring down housing prices. Another upside is the mortgage will be on the purchase price. The improvements done afterwards will be all equity.

While as other people have mentioned there is some real merit to this as an idea, the truth is that it’s being done as a Band-Aid solution. There is literally no interest in fixing the root causes.
