“If the parents in this district are fine paying the salaries of the morons who run these schools, then who can criticize them?”

True, but it’s not the parents paying the salaries, it’s the government. Until parents actually write the check to the school, and the school of their choice, the schools will continue to answer to the government.

Same here, including the bus ride home. Our driver was cool and wore rain gear that day. She also had a bag full of water balloons near her for ammo.

You know how some people like Bill Clinton and Barry Soetoro are groomed and protected for leadership roles starting at an early age?

Ever wonder if the opposite happens, where some potential leaders are taken out early in the game?

At the school where I used to teach, there was a tradition that on the 8th graders’ last day, (it’s a K-8) district, there would be big water ballon fights on the buses on the way home. For safety reasons (and killjoy reasons) we teachers would try to ferret out their hidden ammunition depots. In spite of our best efforts a few would make it through. So, we then switched to not telling the 8th-graders when their last day would be. After a few years of that, the tradition disappeared.

I graduated 30 years ago. Water guns and water balloons were accepted as springtime fun, as long as any watering was done outside, no one, and I mean no one, said boo about it. Hell, the principal would have participated. We also had guns in cars on the campus, and the only shooting that occurred on our campus was accompanied by developer, stop-bath, and fixer.

Well, there was one time where a girl brought a gun to school, and shot herself in the stomach while hiding in the girls' bathroom, but that was the one and only incident in my three years at my high school. It was a cry for help, not that she planned on shooting anyone.

The last day of school was a squirt gun war when I went in the 70’s.

Same here.

And I would add “cowardly” to your otherwise excellent list.

In my high school yearbook (the 70’s) there is a picture of the journalism club students dressed up as the mafia: suits, dark glasses and hold big guns.

In this case, you could have a mutiny with dozens of students refusing to assemble or take directions from the teachers until she’s brought back on campus. If they did some mass suspension of a dozen kids...it’d just get the principal fired.

Excellent idea.

I hope the kids are smart enough to think of it.

Somebody needs to determine who the “concerned student” was? Probably the friend who gave the water gun to her.

Probably some girl jealous of her for her looks and her accomplishments....and probably her boyfriend. JEALOUSY, the GREEN EYED MONSTER.....especially at 16.

In this day and age it was stupid to bring it to school.

That said, she is probably better off home-schooled.

I guess so...but I still marvel at how supposedly smart people take situations to the extreme and absurd.

Where does the definition of a 'gun' stop in these people's eyes?

I once lent a timing light to somebody at work...so I had it at the office. As a joke, I drew it like a pistol and pointed it at the office liberal. He about fainted, and I was momentarily worried about losing my job...but it was all in fun.

That was around 10 years ago. I wonder what would happen if I brought a timing light to work today...or if a kid had one in his backseat in a school parking lot? Odds are good it would cause a problem (heck an improperly shaped pop tart can be a problem).

And if a timing light is a problem...what about hairdryers, etc etc. At some point a watergun is just a watergun and a hairdryer is just a hairdryer....and a real gun is a real gun.

And suspending students for possessing squirt guns would prevent those shootings?

Its completely illogical.

Back in my high school daze, mid to late 1970s, one craze that went around was getting squirt guns shaped like brass knuckles. If you broke off the finger guards, you could palm one of those suckers and nobody would ever see it coming.

Things quickly got out of hand, and mistakes were made...
