Malacañang protocols chief Ambassador Marciano Paynor on Wednesday said US President Donald Trump has personally indicated over the phone that he is coming to the Philippines later this year.
The newly elected American leader is expected to attend the Association of Southeast Asian Nations meeting in November.
As of now, President Trump, for instance when President Rodrigo Duterte called him up to congratulate him had already indicated that he was coming in November, said Paynor.
Multilateral meetings of this sort, we usually expect 100 percent attendance, Paynor added. He was referring to the leaders of nine other ASEAN members states which include Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao, Malaysia, Myanmar, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam.
Other heads of state from dialogue partners like the United States, Russia, Australia, China, India, Japan, New Zealand, and South Korea are also expected to attend.
The 31st ASEAN Summit and Related Meetings are slated on November 10-14 in Clark Field, Pampanga. On April 26-29, leaders of ASEAN member countries are set to attend the 30th ASEAN Summit and Related Meetings in Manila.
These are among the highlights of the countrys chairmanship of the ASEAN.
In a phone call in December last year, President Duterte invited then President-elect Trump to the ASEAN Summit. He also congratulated Trump for his victory.
Clark Field is another name for our former Clark Air Force Base, right?
yes
Only made there once. That was in 1967. Flew there on the way back to the US for a leave. Arriving in the terminal while I was awaiting my outbound flight, there was a US Sailor arriving. She was the most beautiful girl I’d ever seen. I assume she was Pinay. 40 years later I married one.
Went to Asia 2008 before Olympics. My brother-in-law said don’t go to Phliippines in other than Jan or early Feb. Went late Jan. manila hated it. Traffic, slums, so forth. Makate for dinner twice good neighborhoods, upscale;e townhouses. Stayed in gated community white plains. Went to San Fernando, Bohol, Cebu. Wife had 25 at impromptu lunch in San Fernando, most of her family in California.
Not use to servants. They sat at table waiting for us to ask them to do something. washed everything and Ironed my socks and underwear everyday. No dirty clothes allowed in house. Driver. Wife friends took us to Bohol and Cebu and around Manila. Dinner with a senatorial candidate at the Mall of Asia, oxtail soup, bodyguards.
Bohol noice and kick back beach resort, chocolate mountains (shaped like hershey kisses) lunch on boat on the river. I would go again, but wife not too interested. Many of her HS classmates in Cali and all of her immediate family.
Yes. The old Clark airbase is now a “economic free zone”, basically a big duty free area. It’s also an international airport now with a small contingent of the Philippine Air Force still occupying a part of the old base. A lot of new hotels, and various businesses are all over Clark now. I live a couple miles from Clark now, so might have to find a MAGA hat when Pres. Trump rolls in.
however, it has since been promoted as a business center, an airport, and a place to retire for expats. International flights are now flying from there and they are upgrading roads and a train linking to Manila.
