False hate-crime report landed innocent man behind bars, police say

He’s the man who cried gay-bashing.

A 50-year-old man who claimed he was the victim of an anti-gay bias attack outside Madison Square Garden has been arrested — not only for making up the incident, but also for attacking the man who was arrested for the bogus crime, officials said Friday.

Curtis Campbell told police that 26-year-old Grant Leach kicked him in the groin and hurled anti-gay profanities at him and two friends on Seventh Ave. near W. 33rd St. about 8 a.m. on March 12, authorities said.

Cops arrested Leach nearby and charged him with assault and harassment, police said. The charges were ultimately dropped when detectives looked over surveillance cameras in the area and learned that the clash never happened. That’s not all; Campbell allegedly grabbed a metal object and swung it at Leach, according to court papers.

guess they arrested and charged this Leach person because all of the three "gays" corroborated the original lie.

A lot more likely the 50 year old or his friends flirted with the younger guy and were rejected, so they got even.

The story seems to report that Leach was arrested merely on allegations, without police witnessing the crime. Wow! And “gays” say they don’t have special rights?

I don’t fault the cops in this one. They’re not psychic. An assault allegation was made and they arrested the accused.

But they also followed up and found what really happened and are now landing on the actual perps.

You may be partly joking (so tell me if you aren't), but this IS the more likely scenario. Exactly this happened in a Texas university grad school recently, where a straight male student was hit on by a homosexual and rejected him with, let's say, some colorful language. The queer's accusations of "discrimination" were believed and the normal student lost his chance at attending school, and subsequently committed suicide.

It's an understandably hopeless prospect when you perceive that sodomites now own society.

Perhaps I’m not up on NY laws, but I cannot imagine it would be much different elsewhere. In Texas, unless there are corroborating serious injuries, or a police officer witnesses the assault or has an issued arrest warrant, mere accusations are only the cause for charges to be filed. Otherwise, abuse of the justice system would be rampant to “get even” with someone on unsubstantiated charges.

As a former cop, I received plenty of assault accusations in the heat of an argument, but later, the complaining party almost never wanted to pursue charges. Turns out that they were usually false reports, and the complainant knew that their neck was on the block if they went forward with the charges, much less insisting on arrest. (The only exception is domestic violence where the parties are at higher risk being forced to live in close proximity.)

They arrested the person who made the false report. How about expanding the charges to conspiracy to include all the people who collaborated the story who also denied a person their freedom... They should all be in jail.

You have a better perspective so I concede.

My opinion came from dealing with cops in various unsavory neighborhoods throughout SoCal. There, they just arrest everyone on both sides of the accusation. “Mutual combatants” or some such.

I’m OK with the death penalty for people who falsely accuse innocent people of crimes.

What you mention in SoCal could be more on the subject of gang investigation, where police have overwhelming evidence that certain people are involved in gangs.

But think about it. Someone tells a cop who wasn’t present that you slap them, and the cop carts you off to jail. That’s a system ripe for abuse.

Don't get carried away. I think it's serious enough to warrant some substantial, solid prison time, but let's tone down the death penalty.

False witness undermines a criminal justice system to the point of being a joke. It should be no laughing matter. The penalties for such are far too lenient. And when they are committed by a "privileged" so-called "protected minority," the penalty should be double.

Yes, that’s what I meant. What they did in this case sounds like vengeful behavior over being spurned or some similar rejection, especially since it was an older guy who made the false claim.

Yeah, he probably though he had his “Twinkie” bought and paid for, and when it didn’t happen, he acted like the drama queen he is.

Actually he was a student.

By denying students due process, American universities stand on the edge of a constitutional crisis.

This is typical sodomite behavior. Apart from their other vices, they tend to be inveterate liars, as Kirk and Madsen attest.

A judge ordered Campbell held on $2,000 bail.

So the gay drama queen who lied to get an innocent man put in jail for FIVE DAYS gets a puny $2K bail.

Disgusting.

I would sue the bastard for defamation/slander and consipracy and assault and use of government agents of the law as a weapon for false imprisonment/mischief/illegal loss of civil rights.

I would sue this asscan up and down. Try to make a signature case to hammer down on this libtard tsctic.
