U.S. forces have dropped what is known as the "mother of all bombs" in Afghanistan. The device is the largest non-nuclear device in the Air Force arsenal, Fox News' Jennifer Griffin reported. It was dropped in Nangarhar Province, an eastern area near the Pakistan border. It's the first time the 21,000-pound ordnance has been used in combat, said Griffin. The device, developed in 2003 by the U.S. Air Force, is called the M.O.A.B, short for Massive Ordnance Air Blast. It's often referred to as the "mother of all bombs." Watch the report above.

Are you able to see Mt Rainier from there?

This still seems like a “bunker buster” to me.

If it was going to burst 6 feet above ground, why would it be making a nose-dive into the ground ..??

The target was a TUNNEL.

It wasn’t just laying around. The US Air Force had 15 additional made after the 2 Eglin tests for use in the Iraq War, but it was never required. Now they 14.

“...Why didn’t Trump drop this bomb on the alleged chemical weapons bunker at the Syrian air base?...”

From what I understand there was a village 300 yards or so from that Syrian target. Probably did not want the collateral damage in that setting.

GBU-43 (MOAB)

Up to 1,000 yards: Obliterates everything.

Up to 1 mile: Knocks people, tents, light buildings, cars and jeeps over within 1-mile radius.

Up to 1.7 miles: shock wave kills people, causes severe damage to buildings, equipment, blows trucks, tanks off road.

Up to 2 miles: causes deafness.

Up to 5 miles: shakes ground, breaks windows.

Up to 30 miles: 10,000 foot high mushroom cloud visible.

Thanks, but I’ve read the article posted on FR. The actual article doesn’t exist from the FR Link. As well, there is no other data besides that article that I have found that stipulates that the MOAB can be deployed from a B-2.

However, the GBU-57A/B Massive Ordinance Penetrator (MOP) was designed and built in conjunction with the MOAB and is designed to fit into a B-2.

“...in retaliation to ISIS killing one of our Green Berets. Have no details or real source on that. Maybe I’m reporting fake news...”

Yep that is how it’s being reported. Even Military.com is siting this. Several sources now all repeating this Green Beret element. Although I highly doubt that it is strictly vengeful.

I think from what I have read it was getting dangerous there with the massive tunnel network. Bad guys had the advantage in many situations. Thus the loss of the one Green Beret. They were trying to level the playing field with the deployment of this ordinance. We will see how well it worked out.

This was actually about the TLAM strike on Syria, but I'm sure it's how liberals feel today too.

It’s not strange at all. If the bunker full of chemical materials had been targeted, the wind would have carried it all over the place. That was not the target.

The target was to tell Assad that he could no longer gas his people and remain upright.

I stand by what I said. It was a mistake. Muslims can’t govern, they must be ruled by people like Saddam who was a stable force and could be intimidated into behaving.

“...He’s won all his life without dropping bombs. That’s why I voted for him...”

This really is poor reasoning.

He did not have the authority or ability to use the military prior to be being elected.

See when you vote for the president of the United States of America, you are choosing a leader of the Armed Forces. The Commander in Chief.

You should be happy that he has teamed up with good people, and seems to be choosing the right targets.

Let’s hope he can get more of his people in there. From what I have read they are still blocking many of his selections.

Some are being held up by red tape, such as blocking the necessary “lie detector tests” and other clearances.

There seems to be some left over deep state still blocking his administration.

...or any transfer of power of the presidency of the US from a muslim to an American.

Yes, this is along the lines of what I was thinking. One of the biggest battles won in the war on terror was the American people electing a patriot like Donald Trump.

What they found in WW-II was that a significant difference existed between measured surface test blast radius published in manuals versus actual combat effective radius.

We shall soon see I guess, unless they lie like they usually do.

“...I just did a search and it pulled up this article posted on FR back in 2003. Apparently it does fit a B2...”

This seems to settle the question then. Still hard to believe a 30 foot long bomb could fit in the bomb bay of a B-2.

What do I know though.
