U.S. forces have dropped what is known as the "mother of all bombs" in Afghanistan. The device is the largest non-nuclear device in the Air Force arsenal, Fox News' Jennifer Griffin reported. It was dropped in Nangarhar Province, an eastern area near the Pakistan border. It's the first time the 21,000-pound ordnance has been used in combat, said Griffin. The device, developed in 2003 by the U.S. Air Force, is called the M.O.A.B, short for Massive Ordnance Air Blast. It's often referred to as the "mother of all bombs." Watch the report above.

No offense to all the Moms out there, but the next generation should be called the FOAB. Father of all bombs.

Political correctness in weapons naming.

Yeah, I meant to word it a bit as a question. Did not mean to look pedantic

“Play time is over. Will the media promote the “civilian”/collateral damage memes?”

I’m sure we will hear that the tunnels contained several daycares, hospitals, and wedding banquet halls.

This is good news that they’re testing it out. It seems to imply that the US will hopefully be able to use this bomb, stopping short of using nukes. I wonder what our inventory of these is?

On another note, it’s called the MOAB, but the Pentagon is calling it the FOAB, why not just call it the FOAD bomb!

Works for me and my tag line. I used to say ‘NUKE ALL’ but I’ve mellowed with age.

Now you just say 'NUKE SOME?'

Didn’t we flatten the Tora Bora mountain range & its caves with something similar?

Didn’t we drop some earlier versions of this in Afghanistan in 2001?—seems like I remember it being discussed then.

I live about 30 miles SE of the Yakima Firing Range and behind several high desert mountain ranges and we can hear the live artillery fire when that takes place.

The quintessential song in that movie was Wagner's “Ride of the Valkyries.”

He’s won all his life without dropping bombs. That’s why I voted for him. Yuuuuge negotiating skills. Bomb and missile hurling is so Hillary..

Bombs add a tremendous amount to a negotiators side.

At 30 feet long, I find that hard to believe. As well, it is stated that it was designed to be deployed from a C-130. Can you provide a link to some sort of documentation that states that a B-2 can deploy a GBU-43/B?

“The Nork uses mortars to execute people... it would be fitting for that piece of sht.”

I feel the same way.

If he is captured, allow survivors of the ones, he has killed with an AA gun, use one on him and not use the kill shot at first. Work slowly up to it!

Is this any relation to the historic kingdom of MOAB, descendents of Abraham and his nephew Lot, and early enemies of the Isrealites?

No. It’s a reference to Saddam Hussein claiming the coming fight would be the “Mother of all Battles”.

Negotiate with ISIS?

Sure, the MOAB is simply the leverage for the negotiation process.

C-130 / C-17 launch platforms not gonna fair well in Iran or Syria due to prevalence of Anti-Aircraft surface to air missile systems (SAM’s). Afghanistan ....yes, ya can get away with it..... for now. More FAE bombs from fast movers like fighters and low and slow A-10’s would be a nice double tap . But the MOAB’s delivery system limits its use in my opinion.....

Re: Dropping the GBU-43/B Massive Ordnance Air Blast presumably from a C-130 on ISIS--

One wonders if and when we will have a B-2 Spirit stealth bomber drop a GBU-57A/B Massive Ordnance Penetrator to let the Fat Kid from North Korea what is what?

Are you serious? Are you saying because President Trump is taking it to ISIS, while at the same time, sending a powerful message to our enemies to not mess with us, that he’s acting like Hillary Clinton?!

You don’t negotiate with terrorists and you don’t negotiate with leaders who protect and defend those terrorists.

Besides, Donald Trump told everyone and repeatedly stated it vehemently during his rallies that we are going to “Knock the hell out of ISIS.” So just consider what he did today in Afghanistan another one of his campaign promises being kept.
