Washington, D.C. - At the President and the Press event at the Newseum Wednesday, five members of the White House press corps weighed in on their experience covering the first three months of the Trump presidency.
The audience was especially interested in what CNNs Jim Acosta had to say, considering he has had some rather colorful exchanges with the president in his entertaining press conferences. Acosta, youll remember, was the reporter on the receiving end of Trumps fake news retort back in January after his network reported on the unverified Russian dossier published by BuzzFeed. Acosta, however, has no regrets about pressing Trump for a question.
My feeling is our news organization was being attacked and I felt I deserved a question to challenge him, the journalist said. Speaking truth to power means everything.
That same night, Acosta said he received a message from a fellow reporter at another network who told him he did a great job at the press conference.
I was defending all of us, Acosta texted back.
If he had a do-over, Acosta said he would behave the same exact way. So, perhaps, would Trump, Acosta suggested, noting that Trump enjoys the sparring back and forth.
Acosta may have had unpleasant things to say about the Trump White House, but he claims he doesnt want to isolate those who hold conservative ideologies.
We need Republicans to believe in mainstream news media just as much as Democrats, he said. We need people to trust us.
That may be a tall order. CNNs distaste for the president has been on full display since Trump announced his presidency. During the campaign and even now nearly 100 days into Trumps presidency, the network has aired segments with sarcastically written chyrons intended to troll the president. For instance, in a segment on Trumps remarks about nuclear weapons, they displayed the following: "Trump: I never said Japan should have nukes (he did)."
Who can also forget when Acosta threw a tantrum after Trumps joint press conference with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, where he only called on two conservative outlets: The Christianity Broadcasting Network and yours truly, Townhall. The fix is in , Acosta declared.
(It wasnt.)
FAT.
CHANCE.
My suggestion, Acosts....suicide.
Otherwise, how can we lie to them effectively?
We need Republicans to believe in mainstream news media just as much as Democrats, he said. We need people to trust us.
...
Trust is earned so I’d say there is zero chance of that happening.
We need people to trust us.
Then quit lying......
The Tuesday Group & their compadres probably trust CNN — they’re on the same page.
I trust you to lie to us.

For the last eight years, we've been listening to the Obama administration and the MSM speak power to truth.
Trust you? Hah, that ship sailed decades ago.
Actually it means nothing. It's just other self-inflating lefty meme that implies the person being spoken to is ignorant compared to the oh-so-enlightened speaker.
All he's saying, the way I see it, is that CNN is trustworthy. Same song, same tune, blame the viewer (or Trump) for not trusting the outlet.
Define, “us”
Ha! The MSM is so overrun with biased lying lefty scum, no way they will be trusted by any intelligent convervative Americans.
Ofc they would love to be trusted, so they can proceed with their propaganda campaigns unchallenged.
I really loathe these smug, condescending #ricks like Acosta. To hell with all of them.
“Speaking truth to power....”
When have you ever seen a negative story about the ACLU?
When have you ever seen a negative story about the NAACP?
When have you ever seen a negative story about the Democrat leadership?
When have you ever seen a negative story about big unions?
They say the public must TRUST them, but how can you trust the media when they openly support one side, and just as openly demonize the other?
Trust is earned, the only thing the media has earned is SCORN.
At least not for the next hundred years or so.
Right on, well said.
