The United Airlines passenger who was hauled off an overbooked plane is a poker-playing doctor from Kentucky with a sordid past.
Dr. David Dao, 69, who was captured in a now-viral video being forcibly dragged off the Louisville-bound flight at Chicagos OHare Airport on Sunday, was working as a doctor specializing in pulmonary disease in Elizabethtown when he was convicted of trading prescription drugs for sex favors.
According to documents filed with the Kentucky Board of Medical Licensure, Dao was arrested in 2003 on the drug-related offenses following an undercover investigation.

I hope United paid this reporter well.
Fly United. But don’t piss us off or we’ll dig more dirt on you in a day than Hillary and the DNC could in a year.
I can see why finding and publishing dirt on this guy to make him less sympathetic helps United in a PR war, but it doesn’t help them in a legal sense.
And how exactly did he know he would be the passenger that was randomly selected? Rhetorical question to asinine suggestion.
It warms my heart to know that after forcing a passenger off an overbooked flight United Airlines still cares enough to engage in opposition research and public smears against said passenger.
Maybe the CEO of United could strangle a few adorable kittens and puppies on live television just to reinforce the corporate image they seem to be working so hard to engender?
“....reach out to him to get his side of the story.”

Yeah...like did he complete his required psychological evaluations and is he meeting the “conditions” required for him to practice medicine in Kentucky.
It’s Kentucky.
They will license a voodoo doctor to practice medicine.
Yep. Doesn't change a damn thing.
I'm suggesting that an opportunity presented itself, and he may have taken advantage of it. I wouldn't have suspected this except for two uncomfortable items here:
1. The guy has a background of dishonest/criminal conduct.
2. The guy was screaming like a little 'effing girl for no damn good reason.
Oh, well, that changes my mind! He deserved to be beaten bloody and dragged off the plane, unconscious! My only question is why they didn’t summarily execute the man!
These are interesting tidbits, but they have nothing to do with United’s treatment of him. United just gave this pervert the winning numbers in a lawsuit lottery. And if this hit piece can be traced back to a United employee, it will just add to the monetary award. This guy won’t have to work another day in his life.
United didn’t have to do any research. In this day of age someone will do it and publish it. If you become a victim or a perp your background is going to surface.
Yup! Look at the shiny object! Now I am totally distracted!
I see United now offers take-out Chinese!
Funny I got all upset when I first heard all the "details" about Trayvon Martin. Sure enough, coming to FR, I changed my mind. Not sure whats going to happen here though, this one is even more emotionally charged, especially since United gets no sympathy from anyone, lousy company.
“...I have ZERO sympathy for United and no one else should either.”
*************************************
Well, the plane could not take off under aviation regulations until they were down to the authorized number of passengers. I guess you have ZERO sympathy for the fellow passengers who would have been held up had not a volunteer stepped up finally?
With this investigative expertise, maybe United could spend a few hours getting Barry’s academic records and writings?!
FROM ANOTHER ARTICLE:
In a letter to employees, United Airlines’ parent company chief executive Oscar Munoz revealed the company had been trying to make room for four employees of a partner airline, which resulted in four passengers being told to get off the flight from Chicagos OHare International Airport to Louisville.
After the plane was fully boarded, the companys gate agents were approached by crew members that were told they needed to board the flight, the message leaked to ABC said.
“We sought volunteers and then followed our involuntary denial of boarding process (including offering up to $1,000 in compensation) and when we approached one of these passengers to explain apologetically that he was being denied boarding, he raised his voice and refused to comply with crew member instructions,” Mr Munoz said.
Being denied boarding? He already boarded. It will cost the airline much more than upping the offer to thousands of dollars for volunteers to get off the plane. For 5 grand, I suspect they’d have plenty of takers.
I would’ve made a scene too given what happened. I’d be screaming, “White flyers matter... white flyers matter!”
The last flight that Fang & I took was a round trip to
NYC. Lots of turbulence on return. We agreed when we
landed to never fly again & that we’d been enough places;
if we couldn’t drive it, we’d stay home. That was years ago.
So far, so good.
