Gov. Robert Bentley (R) stepped down after being charged with two campaign and ethics violations on the same day that state lawmakers opened impeachment hearings against him. Bentley has fought for more than a year against allegations that he used public resources to carry out and conceal an affair with his former top aide.
According to the state's attorney general office, Bentley pleaded guilty to two misdemeanor charges related to covering up the alleged affair, one for failing to file a major contribution report and another for knowingly converting campaign contributions to personal use. This is a developing story. It will be updated.

(R)INO, that is.
Wow. Busted by his State-issued iPad...
Hmmm. Details, we want details !
“The report says Bentley sent heart-eyed emojis to Caldwell (texts that were linked up to his now ex-wife’s iPad) and made threats to the first lady’s staff to keep the affair secret. The report also detailed what allegedly went on behind closed doors when Mason, according to the report, left the office with her hair tousled and her clothing in disarray.
Bad on him, but still nowhere near as bad as crimes committed by the Clinton Crime family
Some people are just dumber than rocks.
Though only a Republican could be this dumb.
Oopsie... Got to watch those phone linkups...
“Rumors of an affair between Bentley and Mason had swarmed Alabama politics for months before the story finally broke open in March 2016. Bentley fired the state’s top cop, who then went to AL.com with sordid details of Bentley and Mason’s alleged affair including a phone call between Bentley and a woman he addresses as Rebekah that, unbeknown to the two on the phone, was being taped by his now ex-wife. “
He pulled a Mark Sanford with the same result.
hmm, who picks the Sessions seat replacement now?
Ping.
Bentley already did. Luther Strange is now Senator for Alabama along with RINO Shelby.
“Alabama Gov. Robert Bentley (R) stepped down.....”
That was quick. If he were a Democrat, that would’ve read:
“Alabama Gov. Robert Bentley stepped down.....”
Ewwwwww!
How come Democrats can hide coke in the freezer and get elected again but Republicans have to resign?
I am sure that Rebekah will stick with him, right?
He’s old enough to remember “the Rule in Nixon’s Case” even if he is a doctor, not a lawyer.
No. A Republican House started impeachment hearings so Bentley was going to be impeached. Had it been a dem governor the same thing would have happened. He would either resign or be impeached, thrown out of office and charged with felonies. Part of Bentley's resignation deal was to get felonies reduced to misdemeanors.
So Yes a dem would have resigned as well. The same thing would have happened.
