Strip away the emotions and moral concerns about the gun industry and whats left is a multibillion-dollar business involving a highly competitive group of manufacturers whose existence depends on steady demand for their products.
The problem is that theyve glutted one of their biggest markets the U.S., which is home to an estimated 300 million guns while the percentage of Americans owning guns has hit a 40-year low.
So how do they keep the cash registers ringing?
By using fear-based marketing and public rhetoric spouted by their political lobbying mouthpiece, the National Rifle Association, to convince those who already own guns that they need more, and by trying to create new streams of customers.

“...while the percentage of Americans owning guns has hit a 40-year low.”
Yep, I’m part of that statistic because of that terrible boating...uh...never mind.
“. . . to convince those who already own guns that they need more, and by trying to create new streams of customers.”
Dastardly! This is EXACTLY the same technique the motorcycle industry uses with great success on ME! I subscribe to the theory that the correct number (”N”)of motorcycles in the garage is solve by the notation “N+1.”
How does the government let this happen to us poor consumers?
Americans have the right to bear arms.
Lots of arms.
As many as we need or want.
If you don’t like it, leave.
If you think you cam take them, you’ve got another think coming.
Poor, probably deliberately, reasoning here. We all know that the number of background checks rose pretty much every month for the entirety of Obama's two terms. It's also fairly well known that a lot of people who own guns don't do "one and done". "The percentage of Americans owning guns" is more or less independent of the number of guns sold.
I love it. Dems losing left and right, yet they’re still sticking to the same old lame arguments that have caused all their loses!
I bought a really stinking big magnet at Harbor Freight and went out to the lake. Got everything back intact!
Oh right: “Fatal Shooting Shuts Down Las Vegas Strip”

And if that bugs you, it’s the NRA’s fault for making you paranoid.
Fake statistics = fake news...
If the newspaper really wants to slow down gun sales, they should try to get all gun licensing “laws” repealed. These illegal “laws” cause Americans to fear the government — and as the paper correctly observes it is fear that helps drive up firearms purchases. (And Almost nobody respects or obeys obviously illegal “laws” anyway ...)
WRT that 40% gun ownership figure, if asked, I would surely say that I do not own any guns, and that I am part of the 60%. But for a guy who doesn’t own any guns, I sure do seem to have a lot of them around!
Nobody has to convince me to buy more guns, maybe somebody could help me decide how many is enough..............
Oh, yes, those polls asking who owns guns are SOOOOOO reliable! Just as reliable as those polls predicting the victory of President-For-Life Hillary Rodham Clinton!
So I guess all those new gun owners don't count for anything. They're being diluted by "New Americans," like illegals and refugees.
Record gun sales for eight straight years of Obama, yet somehow, ownership numbers are down?
Libtards are just so apparent with their anti gun agenda. They can't prove such idiotic, bald faced lies, and they don't even try.
That gun ownership statistic is based on a single telephone survey conducted by CBS News immediately following the Orlando Nightclub shooting.
As such it is full of CBS. Gun stores and firearms instructors are reporting a record number of first time gun owners, and the number CCW licenses issued by states are exploding. That doesn't even include the number of newly minted concealed carriers in states that have recently passed Constitutional Carry.
Well, I already sold a couple guns at work to people who did not have any, even cut them a deal for their first gun welcoming them to the club...
I do not know where they get their stats from.
In Europe they are persuaded 1% of priviledged Americans own 300 million guns, I kid you not
Actually, thinking of the cost of owning and training with a firearm and what I know from work, people who have guns have on average 1 to 4 guns max. My take is there is at least 100 million owners out there
“This is EXACTLY the same technique...”
Not to mention, guns and motorcycles are just so darn pretty.
