Growers often use empty containers like this to store toxic chemicals. In the previous year, every Gatorade bottle Gabriel and his team found at grow sites tested positive for carbofuran, a neurotoxic insecticide that is so nasty it has been banned in the U.S., Canada and the EU.
Farmers in Kenya have used it to kill lions. Symptoms of exposure range from nausea and blurred vision to convulsions, spontaneous abortions, and death. They just leave these sitting around, Gabriel says as he carefully swabs the bottle.

They need to take ICE on the raids. Most of these grows are manned by illegals.
I’ve heard 62’ locally, up to last week. And it’s raining now. We used to spread that out over a year.
Cigs not figs. Dang spell check!
Dumb journalist, more likely.
Pot tax is way too high.
And license fees, and regulations.
Blackmarket is cheaper.

Six of one half a dozen of the other. Dumb journalists produce #FakeNews.
It’s legal in CA and Oregon, but not at the federal level. So the more growers try to comply with state law, the more evidence against them for the feds. And illegal grows have been going on long before it was legalized. It needs to be legal at the federal level so growers can operate in the open. Like I said, you don’t see illegal tobacco grows. I live in CA, and it’s not “going crazy”.
Yep. The only reason they will be growing it here illegally is to ship to states that still have MJ prohibition. In effect their drug laws are encouraging illegal grows here by providing a high profit black market. Much like states with strict gun control encourage straw buyers and black market traffickers in states without.
Not to mention that legal growers can't sell out of state, which you can bet the illegal growers are doing.

Amen!
roger that - we need to admit the 47 year drug war has failed and only made the mobsters stronger and has not reduced drug addiction one bit
Highlighting the ongoing failure of the war on pot.
These guys arent growing for the legal recreational market or medical dispensariestheyre growing to exploit a black market somewhere,
Exactly what sane FReepers are saying on this thread.
Legalize it and we can all pay for the impact.
“Its increasing by leaps and bounds due to legalization.”
Sorry, I don’t follow the logic.
Malathion is not particularly toxic 1gm/kg LD50 in rats. Parathion is almost 100 times more toxic 14 mg/kg LD50 in rats.
The local paper said 101 inches as of about a week ago (once a week paper). It’s rained at least 4 inches since then. Average in my area is 65-75 a year, a few miles makes a difference. It could keep raining until June at this rate.
You’re not living in the areas of CA that are going crazy, obviously.
I live in an area in OR that is going crazy, and no one gives a s*** about the feds, never seen any around here. It’s absolutely lawless in every way.
Because you don’t live in a place that legalized pot. I do. I see it, read about it, hear it, and listen to dispatch 24/7.
“we need to admit the 47 year drug war has failed”
We need to look at Duterte and admit that we never actually pursued a war on drugs. The most you could say is that we gave drugs a good frowning, stamped our widdle footsies, and whined because the bad old cartels weren’t impressed.
The black market isn’t necessarily “somewhere else”. People would prefer to buy black market weed than go to the official stores where they have to pay taxes etc. I suppose some people buy there. Also under age people - they can’t buy in stores. Plus the meth and heroin use hasn’t gone down at all, the idea that legal mj will diminish the use of “hard drugs” is another fantasy.
