“What does being a former member of a high school football team have to do with anything? He 20 years old.”
That’s a bit odd.
Even more odd it that it does not say he is in college and he was out driving erratically on a Wednesday afternoon.
Keep in mind that it is small town Texas where high school football players are held in high regard.
Read between the lines, the 20 year old kid’s attorney planted the high school football story.
Texting?
Drove up to Paradise from Los Angeles. It’s roughly 125 miles NW of Sacramento.
I hadn’t been driving long, and I couldn’t shake being sleepy, so I did just that. I pulled over and sleep for a couple of hours.
Woke up and had no problem after that.
It’s what you have to do.
I always watch oncoming traffic in case evasive measures are called for.
One news report said that a minute or two before the accident someone called 911 to report reckless driving. I hope they release that recording.
Going to blame it on blows to the head
So those 27 who were killed weren't even worth 1 year each. How sad.
With time served, it figures out to 4 months each. He got out early for good behavior.
Seat belts woulda helped....
So, what has he been doing since high school?

Upon reading the headline, I immediately thought of
AL BUNDY...... Polk High
Again, when the Lord wants you to come home, you are going home....
AL BUNDY...... Polk High
Four TDs iin one game.
20 yo and still in high school ???
I had a twenty-year old working for me. Commuting to the site I passed him on the freeway, slowed down to wave, etc. He was just zoned, staring ahead. Then he passed me - no acknowledgement. I was going to give him the same lecture I give my kids - you can’t just stare ahead.
He ended up in front of me on the two lane road to the site. I come up to a bunch of bales of hay in the highway - traffic flaggers all over the place. I figured a truck had dumped a load of hay at the construction site.
Nope - there was my worker’s car. Covered in long grass where he went off the road, hay from where he went through the edge of the construction site, and he was parked at the side of the road. Thank God the workers were still in their safety meeting - he broke the flagger’s stick in half where it had been at the flagger’s station!
He had fallen asleep. It was then I realized he was working my job (6am to 7 pm with travel) then going directly to the fast food joint until Midnight!
I hope he learned his lesson.
Prayers for this stupid kid too, and all of those that he killed and their families.
I saw something like that several years ago. There was very congested two lane traffic (without shoulders) and this idiot in a white pickup starts weaving in and out of traffic at a high rate of speed and causes several wrecks but keeps going. The idiot was probably trying to get to his drug dealer, home before his wife did so he could shower up so she couldn't tell he was cheating, or had a brand new video game he just couldn't wait to try out. Whatever the reason, the idiot caused tons of problems. I think half the people would have loved to pull him over, pull him out of the vehicle, and play whack-a-mole with his head for a while.
Too much pressure nowadays.
Nobody gets life in jail. But a person can get life in prison.
It’s Texas. Being on the football team automatically buys you some benefit in people’s minds.
Looks like there was a 20 to 28 minute timeframe between the first call to LE and the crash. Where the heck was LE? Did they respond before the crash? If so, when? If not, why not?
That looked like an expensive truck for a 20 yo. Wonder who owned it? And if Young had any run-ins with the law before this?
Probably not...
