TX Gov Abbott: I Will Sign Legislation That Could Put Sheriffs of Sanctuary Cities in Jail
Breitbart ^ | 03/30/17 | Pam Key

Posted on 03/30/2017 9:32:40 AM PDT by Enlightened1

On Newsmax TV’s “The Steve Malzberg Show,” Gov. Greg Abbott (R-TX) said he will confront the issue of cities that refuse to comply with immigration law by signing legislation that could jail sheriffs of sanctuary cities.

Abbott said, “We have been pushing a piece of legislation in Texas that is going to pass that I will be signing into law that imposes even sterner penalties on counties. It will include things such as further defunding them. It will impose fines. And it could impose jail time for these sheriffs to enforce the laws. Oddly enough these sheriffs could wind up behind the very bars they are releasing these criminals from.”

That’s a problem when law enforcement is elected by law breakers.

>>Everyone should read the last one third of Unintended Consequences. It’s all about killing people in power who abuse that power. It was the feel good story of the year when it came out!

*********************************************************
My husband says Unintended Consequences is THE BEST BOOK EVER WRITTEN, (next to the Bible, of course)!

Sheriffs are elected and can’t be fired (most places)

Hopefully all the red States will follow Texas lead. That will be over half of the States. President Trump must find real leaders in the Republican Party and build a bill that will do the rest for the Blue States. Then fill the jail with rogue law enforcers and politicians. Tine to quit fooling around.

Uh, Governor, sheriffs are county officials in Texas, not cities. There may be a few that also cover incorporated cities by a mutual agreement, but not many.

Unintended Consequences is a great, great book.

However, the 1st two thirds are all about the erosion of our freedoms, ballistics, and some airplane stuff.

The last one third is about killing Feds, mostly ATF.

I posit that the last one third is the greatest last one third ever written, excepting the Bible, of course.

You just reminded me: There are no unincorporated areas in the county of San Francisco. The county and city of San Francisco share the exact same boundaries and area on the map.

I assumed that urban areas back east did the same thing.

If a sheriff or leo is breaking the law they can be prosecuted. Otherwise any sheriff is above the law and untouchable or unanswerable to anyone.

Sheriff Ed Gonzalez (Harris County-Houston) who recently testified against our Sanctuary Cities bill in the TX House and pulled us from 287g.
REFUSING TO JOIN THE 287G Program is the line in the sand. They get Fed-like immunity from litigation if they join, train, cooperate.
This is why the ACLU-SOROS AXIS has been trying and succeeding in getting left-wing sheriffs/mayors to cancel or never join 287G program.
THE LEGAL IMMUNITY is the main reason (IMHO)

These supposed enforcers of the law are not allowed to pick and choose which laws they care to enforce.

Right, only Presidents and prosecutors get to do that.

I think the most effective law that could be passed by congress is any family of a victim of illegal aliens can sue the city if they failed to cooperate with the federal government

Rush Limbaugh said last Tuesday that the original Amnesty bill included just such a provision.

And it is also tricky to arrest a Sheriff, as Constitutionally THEY are the highest law Enforcement official within their own counties.

So if they go to the Capital and shoot the governor he can't be arrested? Cool.

They break the law they can be arrested just like anyone else, ask George Wallace.

Great Minds Think Alike...

Actually, I snatched the closest piece of low-hanging fruit and ran with it.

Am not convinced that a sheriff who aids and abets is beyond the governor's reach (or that of the AG down the hall); especially where s/he is given proper legislation or, if necessary, an amendment of the state's constitution.

Toss them in jail, full body cavity search, shaved head, delousing, general population, no bail.

Be sure all the inmates know EXACTLY who they are so they can be welcomed properly.

I have zero respect for people who swear to enforce the law and then refuse to do it.
