Report Says Instructor, Student Fought for Controls Before East Hartford Plane Crash
A plane crash in East Hartford was the result of a flight student refusing to give up controls to his instructor, while apparently doing everything "backwards", a police report revealed.
East Hartford police Lt. Josh Litwin said in October that investigators had concluded the crash was "an intentional act," but noted that they hadn't been able to determine a motive.
New documents from witness accounts reveal that Arian Prevella, a flight instructor and the owner of American Flight Academy in Hartford, struggled with flying student, Feras Freitekh.
On Oct. 11, 2016, an investigation was launched after the twin-engine Piper PA 34 crashed with the two men aboard during a training flight around 3:30 p.m. near the Connecticut headquarters of military jet-engine maker Pratt & Whitney.
The plane was on its final approach to Brainard Airport when it crashed on Main Street and burst into flames, according to the FAA.
Prevalla escaped from the burning plane and was in fair condition at Yale-New Haven Bridgeport Hospital's burn, a hospital spokesman said.

“Maybe he had a target in mind but the instructor prevented the plane from reaching its target”
Exactly. The article implies the student merely tried to crash the plane into the ground. I’d bet the poor instructor saved some lives that day.
So, was this kept out of news because of closeness to election?
I have a buddy that flies - he was a flight instructor when he was pretty young. He recounted the time he was with a big Iowa football player at the controls. The kid froze up and wouldn’t take his hands off the controls - my friend tried removing them but the kid was just frozen in fear (they were diving towards the ground). My friend punched him in the face and freed the controls just in the nick of time.
“I landed the plane walked to the office and quit my job - I wasn’t getting paid enough for that crap.” (I think his next job was as a crop duster!)
Apparently he "loved" crashing airplanes on purpose. Better look into those three roommates before they "die doing what they love".
Gov. Dannel P. Malloy cautioned Oct. 12 that the public should not jump to conclusions.
“As a nation, we have all had to adjust to a new reality,” Malloy told reporters. “

Sadiq Khan: London mayor says terror attacks ‘part and parcel’ of living in a major city
Good one, true too.
NTSB Identification: ERA17FA011
On October 11, 2016, about 1530 eastern daylight time, a Piper PA-34-200 twin-engine airplane, N15294, was destroyed when it impacted terrain near Hartford-Brainard Airport (HFD), Hartford, Connecticut. The flight instructor was seriously injured, and the private pilot was fatally injured. The airplane was registered to International Aviation, LLC, and operated by American Flight Academy as a 14 Code of Federal Regulations Part 91 instructional flight. Visual meteorological conditions existed at the airport at the time of the accident, and no flight plan was filed for the local flight that departed HFD about an hour earlier.
The investigation of this event is being conducted under the jurisdiction of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). The NTSB provided requested technical assistance to the FBI, and any material generated by the NTSB is under the control of the FBI. The NTSB does not plan to issue a report or open a public docket.
It’s those Lutherans acting up again. I mean, ‘hotdish’? That’s messed up.
Hulaballoo snackbar?
Why does this sound like the UN guy they found dead in the Congo whose body was decapitated, and they maintain they haven’t decided how the guy died?
I looked up the instructor. He survived. The law enforcement official did insist, however, that the event was a suicide, not terror related. O....K....
From the link in reply 16:
“The FBI & Local Police Raided an Apartment in Hartford Where He [Freitekh] Lived With 3 Other Foreign Nationals Also Studying to Become Pilots”
Now isn’t that reassuring.
Aloha Snackbar
Feras Freitekh, who died in the crash, came to the United States from Jordan in 2012 on a temporary M-1 visa for flight school
The FBI & Local Police Raided an Apartment in Hartford Where He Lived With 3 Other Foreign Nationals Also Studying to Become Pilots
The crash happened near a major defense contractor, Pratt & Whitney, which manufactures military and commercial jet engines.
The instructor survived. The Muzzie student died. I love happy endings.
It was a Swedish U.N. woman who was decapitated...the other two were “killed” the American U.N. worker and their interpreter. No word on how the other 2 were “killed”!
“Freitekh did have a couple of friends one of the other students I know they both spoke the same language and there were a lot of times where they would be walking back and forth and they would be conversing in their own language, which obviously most of us can’t understand what’s going on.”
Gee, I wonder what they were discussing?????
NOT
FERAS FREITEKH of Jordan?
Motive. Duh? ME?
