Following House Speaker Paul Ryans decision to withdraw a bill repealing and replacing Obamacare, President Donald Trump attempted to mend the factions of the Republican conference and reiterated his support for the House Freedom Caucus.
This is a hard time for them, Trump said of the Freedom Caucus. This is a hard vote.
Republicans were supposed to vote on the plan partially repealing and replacing Obamacare on Friday. But Ryan notified members this afternoon he decided to pull the health care bill after a number of conservative and centrist Republicans rebelled against it.
During a press conference with reporters, Ryan indicated that it was the House Freedom Caucus, a group of roughly 40 conservatives, who prevented the legislation from passing.
We were on the cusp of fulfilling a promise that we made. We were on the cusp of achieving an ambition we all had for seven years, and we came a little short, Ryan said. We came close, but not quite there.

What is Ryan smoking?
We all don't any of that!
He’s a better leader than any of them could ever be.
Freedom Caucus saved him.
Hope Bannon gets that through Trump’s head.
Word is there were more moderate/centrist NOs than red meat right wing NOs. There are only 25 of the latter so not hard to have more than that.
The modifications moved too far to the right. He lost more votes doing that, and gained nearly none.
Sundance thinks this is all “The Art of the Deal.” That Trump had to show them the downside first. Then let the GOPe fail. Now he will let the “Conservatives” fail. Only then will he be able to get his way.
Exactly, Ryan’s bill would have renamed Obamacare to Trumpcare and retained 80% of the unconstitutional mess and hung it around Trump’s neck.
Yipeeeee !!!!!!! We get rid of Paul Rino !
And that bill that GAVE health care to ILLEGALS !!!!
And STRIPPED Christians of their special insurance !!!
WAY TO GO, MR PRESIDENT !!!!!!!!!!!!

Fool us once Paul...
Thank God the Freedom Caucus saved the GOP Elite from themselves and from hanging this albatross around President Trump’s neck.
I am VERY PROUD of the Freedom Caucus and the GOP conservatives. They held the line and fought Lyin’ Ryan effectively. Rino Ryan can go to hell. Hopefully the Freedom Caucus help get a full honest repeal of Obamacare. No Democrats are willing to help at this time, but 2018 elections are coming and if Obamacare is falling apart with premiums soaring and coverage plunging, some of the Democrat Party Senators just may feel the heat from their voters.
I can dream anyway.
We were on the cusp of not repealing obamacare and replacing it with obamacare
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Exactly the plan.
And hang it around Trump’s neck to make him a one term President so they can get back to importing cheap labor and selling out US sovereignty.
I am not a fan of Paul Ryan. There were some aspects of the bill that I didnt like, but I was not clear on all the points in the bill. Heard Rush enumerate them only today. I admit I dont follow this stuff 23 hrs a day, dont have the time or gigabytes to do so.
Rush made a good point, today. He pointed out that the Republican have all of these various, ‘Factions’ within them...The Freedom Caucus, whoever decides to form a ‘gang’ pro or con to any bill, etc.
The Democrats don’t do that. They are united in their mission to destroy America. And they ALL do it, ALL THE TIME.
Getting Republicans together on ANY issue IS like herding cats. It truly is.
Trump needs some catnip and a whip, LOL!
Fool us once Paul...
That's funny!
So is this... (or at least I think it is)
Here is the current structure under ObamaCARE
Here is the new structure under RinoCARE
“There were some aspects of the bill that I didnt like, but I was not clear on all the points in the bill.”
Ya.
Only one point that I was concerned with:
Federal control over healthcare is ILLEGAL!!
Everyone else can argue all the other finer points between Obamacare and Rinocare. I don’t care
During the entire 3 week national conversation on Ryancare, I never once heard a single Republican leader talk about how they intended to reduce the cost of insurance and lower the ridiculous deductibles so that people could actually start to receive health CARE again.
What has happened under Obamacare is that small business and the middle class are forced to pay for health care they will never actually receive so that the leftist created underclass will in fact receive health care that they don’t have to pay for.
And when we complain about the fact that we no longer receive medical treatment, because our insurance is worthless and there are no market forces available in the industry, we are derided and called every hateful name imaginable!
The Republicans said they would defend us and work to eliminate these injustices if we just elected them to Congress. So we did. But instead of trying to help us, they put forward a bill to solidify into perpetuity the injustices of Obamacare while making the health insurance industry even richer!
It’s all just absolutely disgusting. Thank God that at least a few of our representatives care about us.
What you have described as a solution = John Boehner
If they do another bill it is going to be with the Democrats and won’t be as conservative. Defunding PP, forget about that. They are short sighted. A lot of things that were going to be done on this bill aren’t going to happen in a bill with the Dems. They acted like this had to be the end. If they passed this the next vote would have had some good things baked in. It would have been a better position to start negotiations with the Democrats
+1
