Pirates infielder Jung-Ho Kang has been denied a visa to enter the United States. The report just broke this morning and has yet to hit the English language press.
Kang, who was just convicted of a third DUI in Korea, may have a DUI conviction in a third country, though that part is unconfirmed. Its also unclear whether that, or the mere fact of his conviction in Korea, has held up his visa.
Either way, Kang has yet to see a day of camp and will almost certainly not be ready to start the season for the Pirates, even if he gets his visa today. It sounds, however, like this could be a more drawn out process. Well stay tuned.

This technically bars you from admission to the United States, though in the past celebrity performers and athletes could apply for (and usually get) a waiver.
Looks like there's a new Sheriff in town.
I have driven in the Korea Town part of Los Angeles. There I see the worst drivers I have ever seen. The thought of a serial drunk Korean driver gives me the chills.
I always figured a drunk Korean was a better driver than a sober one.
Good. We've got enough immigrant drunk drivers.
Kang is a big part of the team and will be missed. It is ironic though that a DUI gets you barred as a legal immigrant, but won’t get you expelled as an illegal immigrant.
Trump is sending a message. It’s Law and Order.
You break the law, you’re out. No matter how wealthy or famous you might be.
Let the howling Left go to bat for a drunk driver.
Bob Clark, the director of Porky’s and A Christmas Story, was killed along with his son in 2007 when an ILLEGAL IMMIGRANT was driving drunk and plowed into them, head on, in excess of 100MPH.
We called those kinds of things “Suicide Cabs” when I was in that area. You get in and you better be drunk or you’ll sh!t your pants. If the driver hits something throw some bills in the front and run.....the ones who hire the service can be held liable....... great fun. Crazy sh!t
MLB players have been having visa issues for decades and decades.
It is a rite of spring.
Good! We’ve had too many innocent Americans murdered by drunken foreigners.

History has shown that DJT is a Phillies fan.
Good. It shows the complex system is working - felons abroad are not allowed into the United States at least as a first cut.
Now this case can be kicked upstairs for special review and consideration. If this man proves to have special skills, and not be a danger to the USA (which seems to be the case) then he can be allowed in.
This is how intelligent systems work
Yes, it is ironic. Yet, that is our legal system. If you are in the country you have more rights, even if illegal, than if you are outside the country, even if trying to get in legally.
After one trip where I could have leaned my head out of the window and rested it on the side of a truck that was in the "lane" next to us, I told the driver that, on the next trip, I was going to bring a socket wrench set and start undoing lug nuts from wheels and paneling from nearby trucks.
What became a running joke in our office for the rest of my tour.
And just an aside for all of you who had tours to Korea up at Camp Casey ... do any of you know why newly-arrived soldiers were called "turtles"?
A lawyer friend of mine said that it was very probably due to my *very* common Irish name having appeared on some watch list and, having seen it,they went to work.I was allowed in after those 90 minutes.
Three drunk driving convictions in any court of any civilized nation should exclude aliens from entering the country.
GOOD ! (Mets fan)
Jung-Ho?
So how exactly is that pronounced?
Definitely my experience while over there; doesn't hurt for the passenger either.
I wonder how many Koreans with three DUIs that don’t play third base for the Pittsburgh Pirates were denied visas but it didn’t make the news.
