Ivanka Trump moves into West Wing office, acknowledges ‘no modern precedent’ for her role

Although Ivanka Trump lacks a formal White House job, the president’s older daughter is moving into her own West Wing office, an administration representative said — a move that increases her profile as an influential, although unofficial, adviser to her father.

Ivanka Trump will not be on the government payroll or officially bound by its ethics rules, but she said in a statement to Politico that she will “voluntarily” follow those restrictions. She also acknowledged the unusual nature of her emerging role.

“I will continue to offer my father my candid advice and counsel, as I have for my entire life,” Ivanka Trump in the statement. “While there is no modern precedent for an adult child of the president, I will voluntarily follow all of the ethics rules placed on government employees.”

Just a side note on family dynamics...

in a typical family situation...the Step Mom and the step daughter might have “power issues” over who gets the most influence. The one with the least power may feel slighted. Step Moms are often jealous of the first children.

Same with siblings. One sibling slighted over another

Not saying that has ever been an issue with Trump..but wouldn’t be surprised if Ivanka takes precedence over Melania

At times I have felt sorry for Marla Maples daughter. One time Trump said something like..”and to a lesser extent..Tiffany.” I cringed because having grown up with that kind of split family dynamic as so many in the US do...I could see how that might hurt a little.

God Bless to the whole family..but really Ivanka..you are going to screw us over with Gorelick.

Yep, no precedent, except for every first lady and adult child that’s ever been in the Whitehouse.

“Not in this case. Assuming Melania and Barron do move in, and I’m not convinced they will, Ivanka will still have more say over things than she will. Trump just depends on Ivanka more. “

I do not believe your assessment here is correct.

I feel the same way about her as I feel about any other unelected bureaucrat. NOT her job to discuss my life. And I wouldn’t care if she was a conservative instead of leaning liberal. I’m just sick of unelected people deciding things about my life.

In case you don’t know...the first set of siblings have said Ivanka is the favorite.

In the 60 minutes interview..look at where Ivanka was sitting versus the rest of the family.

I don’t think Melania even wants to be part of most of this. I think she is content in NYC with Barron and her parents.

It will be interesting to see what happens.

Frankly, given the hostility..Barron might be better off in NYC than the cesspool of DC.

I Love Ivanka, but why do so many people believe she’s a conservative?

She’s not conservative at all:

she’s an unremarkable Liberal.

I don’t like this one bit.

We would all flip our lids had (perish the thought) Hillary won, and Chelsea moved into a West Wing office.

Very, very Jacksonian!

Folks, this is a flashing red alert to anyone paying attention that Trump is modeling himself after Andrew Jackson.

Andrew Jackson: American Lion by Jon Meacham should be required reading for all Freepers from this point forward.

Didn’t first lady Hillary have an office in the West Wing, and that was OK with liberals then? A family member who held no official office or administrative function had an office there and that was OK. What is fundamentally different about this???? That it is a daughter not a wife???

Good catch Dilbert... Sad, but it's OK for Danielle Paquette to lie - - she writes for the Washington Post after all... (they'll have a ready made excuse why this is 'different'... It's not different, but they believe their own lies...

Not happy about this. Ivanka is a Gorebull-warming weather-religion cultist and a Progressive.

True. We would have a field day if Chelsea and her husband were doing what Ivanka and Jared are doing.

I can handle her being there as someone Trump can trust since there are so few that he can..it has to be mentally taxing....

The problem I have is the piss poor judgment of hiring Gorelick..BY BOTH JARED AND IVANKA

I do not believe your assessment here is correct.

Ivanka is favored child. Melania is third wife.

That’s exactly who Gorelick is. Personally, I think she should have killed herself after 9/11. Anyone with a shred of decency would have.

Instead, she’s collecting a big fat pension, a salary and money for being on at least one board.

Disgusting.

Big misstep for President Trump.

“Many presidents have had an adult child help with the political side of things. Why can’t she do that?”

What scares me is the text from the post yesterday: “...the first daughter will not have an official title, but will get a West Wing office, government-issued communications devices and SECURITY CLEARANCE TO ACCESS CLASSIFIED INFORMATION.”

This is absolutely NOT ACCEPTABLE — on many levels. One level is the Gorelick connection, which is a Clinton connection, which is an Obama connection, which is a Muslim connection.

To be fair, this could be Ivanka and Jared’s decision which could not be overruled by Trump.

Kushner’s family is heavy Dem..so much so it caused a rift between father and Uncle.

Josh Kushner has a Billion dollar company dependent on Obamacare.

Use of Gorelick is absolutely appalling, and it certainly indicates that Ivanka Nd Jared are much too tuned into Demoncrap power circles. Whoever steered them to Gorelick knew exactly what they were doing. Gorelick is evil scum.

I think President Trump should tell his daughter to pack up her husband, kids and go back to New York... Her whispering is liberal ideas which she and her husband has and will foul up the works...

Agree! And Trump needs to keep his word that his children would not be in his administration. I trusted him and now he's turning me into a liar.
